Problem
Crime committed last night in room 108, Ms. Parsons
entered the room this morning and saw signs of:
forced entry
vandalism
possible fighting
and the laptops were stolen
Lab 1 Observations
Quantitative Observations (numerical info)
1. (3) composition notebooks
2. Only (1) shoe instead of a pair
3. (4) drops of blood
4. The shoe size was approx. a size 7 tennis shoe

Qualitative Observations (adj., qualities)
1. Paint bucket belongs to a color similar to light tan or beige.
2. A fruity covered filled notebook that most likely belongs to a
female b/c not many males have fruit covered anything.
3. The shoe was a womens running shoe because the colors were
mainly baby blue and sparkly gray
Crime Scene Photos
Crime Scene Photos (cont.)
Hypothesis (Lab 1)
First inference based on the crime scene was that the
shoe belonged to a woman who was just previously
tending to a garden, also because the notebook was
most likely a females.
Hypothesis: If the womans shoe is muddy then she
was probably in the garden because the shovel and
sunflower are also at the crime scene.

Soil Analysis of Lab 2
Independent Variable was the soil that changed
Dependent Variable was pH being measured
Control Groups were the soils compared to the soil we
were trying to identify (crime scene)
Experimental Group was the crime scene soil which
was unknown
In conclusion, we found the pH of Forest Park soil to
be 8 and was closest to the pH of the crime scene soil
which was 9

Fiber Analysis of Lab 3
1)
Independent Variable: The type of fabric
Dependent Variable: The effect on the fabric after burning it
Constants: Fire
Control Group: The different type of fabrics
Experimental Group: The type of fabric found at the crime scene
2)Conclusion: The crime scene fiber had a texture similar to felt
and burned like the cotton fabric of a T-shirt, therefore we
conclude that the crime scene fiber is cotton.

Blood Typing Analysis of Lab 4
1)
Independent Variable: Blood
Dependent Variable: Clumping
Constants: Same serums, same tooth picks
Control Group: The blood found at the crime scene
Experimental Group: All different types of blood
