Practice 4.1
Recognize the extend to which a cultures structures
and values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or
create or enhance privilege power.

A resident could not speak English, provided interpreter so the resident could understand what
care she was receiving.
Practice 4.2
Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the
influence of personal biases and values in working with
diverse groups
I have to analyze each resident and what care they might need for going home or if they are
coming to become a long term care resident.

Recognize and communicate their understanding of the
importance of difference in shaping life experience
Resident family did not want any pain medicine when the resident was in pain cause they
viewed it as it was killing her and they wanted her to die of a natural death.
Practice 4.4
View themselves as learners and engage those with
whom they work as informants
Explain an education packet to the long term care residents, explaining what their Residents
Rights are.
