Population Pyramid in 2012
Population Pyramid 2025
Population Pyramid 2050
What Do The Population
Pyramids Mean?
2012: The lower portion of the pyramid
is wider which means that those age
groups are the age groups with the
highest number of people. It starts to
thin out towards the top of the pyramid,
which shows that the higher age
groups in Colombia have a lot less
people than the other age groups.

Continued
2025: By comparing the two pyramids,
you can see the population is
increasing yearly. For the 2025
pyramid, it is very thick towards the
bottom which means their younger age
groups are bigger, but as they grow
older, their age group will still have high
population numbers.
Continued
2050: The 2050 pyramid is almost even
until the top where it gets thin. It is like
this because each age group stayed
the same and the new ones that came
in also had about the same as the other
age groups, except for the older age
groups that get smaller as people die.
Summary
I think that with their population and the size
and geography of their country that they are
evened out pretty well. They have some
major cities where most of their population
is, but they also have decently large
populations outside of those cities. This is
important because it means they are not in
trouble of over population in areas, for
example, China. They do not strain
resources, they can provide for themselves
and they do not rely on others for everything.
Summary Continued
It interacts positively because it has
everyone has their area with their own jobs,
such as the country with agriculture, and the
cities with business opportunities. It interacts
negatively because people live in the city
and the country, but there are more parts to
Columbia than just those two parts, which
means those other parts are not very
populated but they will need to become
populated so Colombia can continue to
grow.

Colombia is Semi-Periphery. Being Semi-
Periphery means:
1. regions that mix both core and peripheral forms of
organization.
2. regions spatially located between core and
peripheral regions.
3. regions spatially located between two or more
competing core regions.
4. regions in which mediating activities linking core
and peripheral areas take place;
5. regions in which institutional features are in
intermediate in form between those forms found in adjacent
core and peripheral areas.

Why Is Colombia Semi-
Periphery??
Colombia is a semi-periphery state
because they meet all the things in the
slide before. They meet these because of
their location and how they interact with it.
Human Development Rank
Colombia is ranked 88th in the world.
Human Development Ranking is done by
taking all of the main things that a country
needs to develop. For instance, how good
their health is and their education, the better
it is, the higher the rank they have. This
means that their economic power is on the
stronger side compared to other countries in
its region.
Human Development Rank
Continued
Compared to the U.S., ranking at 4th in the
nation, Colombia is not as well developed. It
is like this because the U.S. has so many
industries, but Colombia only focuses on a
couple. Compared to the world, Colombia
has a high Human Development Rank,
which is good and means they are
developed and becoming more developed.

Part 3: Cultural

The official language of Colombia is Spanish
and spoken by around 43 million people. In
addition there are approximately 500,000
speakers of American Indian Languages.
These are the only two main languages that
are present.
Languages
Religions
1. Catholicism; 85%
2. All other religions are just different forms
of Catholicism depending on where the
people were from, and that makes up the
other 15%.

Ethnicity
1. Mestizo 58%
2. White 20%
3. Mulatto 14%
4. Black 4%
5. Mixed Black- Amerindian 3%
Sports
Soccer and basketball are
two sports that are
popular in Colombia.
Soccer is the main sport
that people play in
Colombia, basketball is
not as well known to
them. They are very good
at soccer and you can
find kids playing it
everywhere.
Folk Housing
This is the traditional
folk housing of
Colombia. As you can
see, they do not have
that much room, so they
build up so they can
have more people. This
is the older homes, they
are becoming more
complex now.
Folk Foods
The foods to the left
are both folk foods
of Colombia. It is
fish with rice, fish
which they catch
from right on the
ocean, and fried
bananas. Bananas
are plentiful in
Colombia.
Folk Art
The red pattern is a
traditional needlepoint
artwork, the design is so
easily defined because
all of the little points
come together to make
a big picture. The
picture of a girl just
shows their creativity
and their use of bright
colors in folk art.
Popular Culture
This movie taking
place in Bogota,
Colombia, is an
example of popular
cultural. It showed
discrimination and
disappointed
government and they
tried to stop it. It took
place in Colombia
and shows the city.
Popular Culture
Popular culture is the main things of a
culture that are expressed by the population.
Some examples of popular culture is how
they dress and the festivities in which they
interact. The next slide will show both of
these examples. Enjoy!
Folk Music
This is traditional folk music of Colombia. It
is mainly a version of salsa and is made for
group parties that want to have a good time
dancing. It makes you want to get up and
dance!
Summary
Colombia has a very diverse and interesting culture. The folk aspects of their
culture really caught my attention. I saw how they used to live with their
buildings, and I also learned about what their music sounds like! The folk foods
really caught my attention, mainly because I am a chef, but I noticed how their
food all works together very well and they use all of their main resources to
really bring out the flavor in their dishes, for instance, the fried bananas which
are absolutely delicious! Their sports was fun to learn about because I learned
that they have a really good soccer team, so next time I will try to watch one of
their games. Popular culture was mainly a movie that took place in Colombia, it
was a hit, except for with the government. It made them seem like they didn't
include all races and segregated people, which was not true, therefore they
tried to stop this, which is still in process. All in all, the folk aspects of the
Colombian culture was very fun to learn about and I will definitely be looking
more into it to find more information about how they live now compared to how
the used to live.

Government
Colombia has a Republic government,
where the executive branch dominates
government structure.President and Vice
President elected by popular vote for a four-
year term. The president right now is Juan
Manuel Santos Calderon with his vice
president being Angelino Garzon.
Failed Nation Status and Rank
Colombia ranks 52nd (out of 177) on the
failed nation list. This is not very good and
should be much better. Failed nation means
many things, but mainly the country cannot
provide for itself and is not developing into
what it should so we rank it to try and make
it step up and become better.

Factors
Refugees- Colombia has a high refugee
rate because people are fleeing the
country because they are afraid of
persecution.
Human Flight- Their population has not
expanded well, they have not made very
much improvements so their knowledge is
not increasing.
Factors Continued
Uneven Development- Their country is
not developing evenly, only the cities are
developing, nothing on the countryside is
developing well.
External Intervention- Other countries are
in their country trying to help them out,
which lowers your rank if their is another
country helping.
