Mid-Term Assignment
A. Reflection on Questions from August
During the first week of school I had a lot of questions on how my writing class was going to
work. I was nervous about how assignments and papers were going to be graded and also
classroom procedures. One question that I asked was Will we go over every literary piece
that we read independently in class, and break it down? Now that we have been in class
for a couple weeks I know that this class includes a lots of open discussions where we are
able to break down all of the material we read in order to get a better understanding or
perspective. I also know that Ms. Ingram doesnt mind us dropping by or making an
appointment to meet with her to discuss assignments that we have a problem with or
simply just questions. My revision and editing are also a major part of my grade so its
something that I need to really pay attention to. Im still not quite sure on how long the
average paper might be for this class but we mostly stay between 2-5 pages so I have an
idea. Class participation is calculated by turning in assignments not just speaking in class.
This means I need to make sure I turn in all of my assignments on time. All of my questions
pretty much got answered but Im still not quite sure on what format should be used for
this class.

B. 9 Key Concepts
From looking at the 9 key concepts I think that I have been doing a great job at being
curious, getting out of my comfort zone and making connections. I have been able to
connect text to what has happened in my life and also making connection to what is
happening in society. Along with being able to connect text I also interact inside the
classroom by participating in class discussions which allows me to get out of my comfort
zone. I am not shy but when it involves classwork or in serious situations I tend to get not
speak out as much. Curiosity is something that comes natural to me so I will be curious no
matter what. So this is something I feel very confident with. The most challenging key
concepts would most likely be independent inquiry, critical thinking and providing and
receiving feedback. Sometimes I read and dont know exactly what to ask myself to better
understand the material which just causes confusion. Also critical thinking can be a
challenge because I dont know where to start or I will hit a sticky spot in a text and cannot
make a critical analysis. Providing feedback is not a very big challenge for me, but I do feel
that Im not confident in giving feedback because Im not sure if its very useful or has a
purpose. I dont really have any questions about the key concepts I just hope to improve in
all of the concepts that we will be practicing in this class.
C. Literacy Narrative Revisions
Looking at my Literacy Narrative that we just completed about our literacy sponsors, my
favorite would be my second draft were I went more in depth and I also felt more

connected to my writing. Ms. Ingram told us to write 5 pages and I was worried that my
paper would be less detail oriented and not very structured. Surprisingly that wasnt the
case and my second draft turned out very well. During peer editing my peers also found my
second draft more appealing and could better connect to the text. I used a lot of sensory
detail and also dialogue which made my paper stand out and very engaging. Get up its time
to go to your match is an example of my dialogue usage. I incorporated everything I
remembered hearing whether it was from my parents, coach, or opponents. The use of
dialogue really brought the paper to new heights giving it meaning. My use of imagery was
also present throughout the entire paper giving the reader a picture of the story in their
head as if they were there. The day looked so calm and peaceful, Sticky muggy
atmosphere are two examples how I brought a vision to the reader.
D. e-Portfolio Rhetorical Analysis
I decided to analyze Noah Greens e-portfolio. The author of this e-portfolio is Noah Green
of course because all of the essays and work provided was created by him. The intended
audience is Ms. Ingram and his classmates. The main purpose of his text is to please Ms.
Ingram so that he will receive an exemplary grade on his e-portfolio for the class. Noah
talks about how he enjoys running cross country and how it has become his passion. As the
cross country season progressed, I became passionate about the sport he related his
passion for running to his success in being able to run on UNC Charlottes cross country
team so the genre of his e-portfolio would be running or cross country. With his genre there
are no limitations because Noah can write as much as he wants about his experience in

cross country because he makes his own rules. Noah Green does an excellent job fulfilling
the purpose of his text because it meets all aspects of Ms. Ingrams e-Portfolio grading
scale. I think Noah did a great job in the linguistic and spatial mode because he provided
pictures with meaning that goes along with his writing and also by his use of imagery and
sensory details in his essays.
E. Exemplary e-Portfolio?
For the most part I believe that I am setting myself up for an exemplary e-portfolio grade.
There are still things that I need to work on such as adding pictures, personal touches, and
organizing my website. As I continue to work through that process I am sure to get an A. I
really like the idea of an e-portfolio, although its 70% of our grade I like that we get to see
how much our writing has improved over the course of the semester. I also know that this
midterm grade is a heads up on how I am doing in the class so I feel confident that I am
meeting the expectations. As I said before I am still working on making my website more
appealing and all of the work that upload will be my best work.
