Collaborative Networked Online Learning Community

Reflecting on the task of creating an educational framework for online learning, our group felt it was
important to recognize the theory which influences our design. We hope that our framework is
symbolic of a constructivist learning environment. Constructivist theory emphasizes the co-
construction of knowledge by both individuals and groups. Learning is essentially social, active,
collaborative, authentic, complex and reflective (Jonassen, 1999). Collectively as a community of
learners, online students generate and transform knowledge.
