World War II wrought heavy damages, death and pain to the people of
Mindoro. However, social conditions continued to exist without any denitive
changes. !fter the war, reconstruction and reha"ilitation of infrastructure and
economy too# place which ended with the division of the island into two
provinces of $riental Mindoro and $ccidental Mindoro on %une &', &()*, "y
virtue of the +epu"lic !ct ,o. )*).
In the decades after the war, the island continued to "ecome one of the
preferred areas of new settlers coming from the overpopulated provinces in
the -hilippines in search of the new land. !part from the hope to "ecome
landowners or to have "etter tenancy conditions, the guerrilla war .Hu#
re"ellion/ in Central 0u1on was an important factor for migration. 2nder the
settlement program of the ,ational +esettlement and +eha"ilitation
!dministration .,!++!/ which was founded on %une &3, &()4, families from
Central 0u1on were settled in the 5onga"ong6-inamalayan area. 7his pro8ect
ended in &()9 after the settlement of 9*9 families .',9'9 people/ on 3,9**
hectares of pu"lic land. :ince then new settlers have incessantly migrated to
Mindoro until today.
