Step 3 Search the Online Library Catalog

Step 4 Locating the Books
Use your library map to find the section you need to look for your books. The call numbers on
the books will tell you what section of the library you need to be searching in.
Remember look left-to-right, top-to-bottom when searching the bookshelves.

Step 5 Evaluate Your Choices
Take the books to a library table and look carefully at the books.
Look at the Table of Contents and the Index.
Do you see any of the keywords from your list?
Put a star next to your keyword list for each keyword you find in the book.

Look at the pictures of the books.
Look for pictures with captions that might help you answer questions.

Check the book for your Reading Level.
Look at the first page of the book where the information begins and read the first page. Is it too
simple or too hard to read? Or is the book just right?
How many books will you need? Review your list of keywords and decide if you need more
than one book.
Step 5 Final Assessment
Review with the books with the Librarian or your teacher.
Show the list of books you found in the online library catalog.
Explain your reasons with your keywords for choosing the books.
Step 6 Checking the Books Out
Check Out - You will need to check the books at the Circulation Desk before you can take
them to your classroom or home.
Ask the Librarian the due date to return the library books.
