Week 2 Cyber Club exercise:

This week will consist of creating a client VM and connecting it to the Active
Directory network created in week 1.

Objective: Test previously configured server services from a client machine. This
exercise will help the user understand the various issues associated with server
services and client side services. This will show the students how to manage a small
network with multiple users and policies that affect the end user through group
policy objects *GPO.

As with any exercise TAKE SNAPSHOTS along the way so if something breaks
you arent redoing the whole system every time!

Step 1. Complete any missing steps from the previous week 1 lab.

Step 1.2 While completing the previous lab steps, create a new VM client using
Win7.

Step 2. Install Win7 and configure it to connect to the domain set up previously
(example.com)

Step 3. Verify you are able to login with each user created

Step 4. Verify the users are able to get to the mapped / shared drives which they
were given permissions to previously.

Step 5. Test remote access to the server using Remote Desktop *mstsc is the
command name from the command prompt or run

Step 6. Go back to the server locate the OU for the computers and set a GPO on the
client connection to expire the password immediately for any 4 users (This should
not affect the other users in Active Directory)

Step 7. On the server, set up the shared folders to auto mount on the client when the
users log in. *Hint: you do this directly for the users not the computer.

Step 8. Verify changes from the server on the client

Step 9. Set up a WDS (Windows Deployment Service) on the server

Step 10. Create a basic image from the win7 disc on the server

Step 11. Set up the WDS to pull in images from clients *This will pull a client image
from a PXE booted client to the server.

Step 12. locate the sysprep.exe on the client and run it

Step 13. Check out of box experience OOBE and check generalize and select
SHUTDOWN and OK
This will start the generalization of the system sysprep

Step 14. Start the client up in PXE boot mode. This will need to be done from VM
Workstation. You need to change the boot order to have PXE boot first.

**Note: This step is experimental and may not work. If it doesnt, dont get
discouraged. I have had hit or miss success with this.

Step 15. start the import process to the server.

Step 16. once imported you may reboot the system and reset the VM

Step 17. Set the server DHCP to assign the client a static IP address. *Note: This is
done by mac address.

Step 18. restart the client to verify the new address has been given by the server.

Step 19. Verify the mapped drives exist for each user

Step 20. Shut everything down and relax!
