from Malays. Filipinos were consider senetive people at the time. They already formed their
government by barangays. he Barangays were well-organized independent villages - and in some
cases, cosmopolitan sovereign principalities, which functioned much like a city-state. The
Barangay was the dominant organizational pattern among indigenous communities in the
Philippine archipelago. The name barangay originated from balangay, a Malay word meaning
"sailboat".[
During occupation: During the invasions, Filipinos truly lost themselves as people. They
gradually lost their ancient traditions, their recollections, they forgot their writing, their song,
their poetry, their laws in order to learn by heart other doctrines, which they did not understand
other ethics, other tastes, different from those inspired their race by their climate and their way of
thinking. They became ashamed of what was distinctively their own, in order to admire and
