Indian Rupee to be a legal tender in Zimbabwe
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) announced Indian rupee
as a legal tender on 29 January 2014.
RBZ was adding Indian Rupee and three other Asian currencies
to the basket of currencies to be circulated in the country. These
include China, Japan and Australia. The public can now open
accounts in Chinese Yuans, Australian Dollars, Indian Rupees
and Japanese Yens. Till now, Zimbabwe accepted the US dollar
and the South African rand as the main legal tender.

Anand Kumar, the founder of Super30 got Ramanujan
Mathematics award
Anand Kumar, a mathematician and founder of Super30 classes
was conferred with the 2014 Ramanujan Mathematics Award in
Rajkot on 27 January 2014. The award was given to him at the
Eighth National Mathematics Convention organised in Rajkot.

Uttar Pradesh government launched Samajwadi pension
scheme
Uttar Pradesh Government launched the Samajwadi Pension
Yojana on 28 January 2014. The new pension yojana will
replace the existing Rani Laxmibai Pension Yojana in phased
manner.
The main features of the new Pension Yojana
It provides for a monthly pension of 500 rupees to each rural
family for the year 2014-15.
The pension amount would be raised gradually by 50 rupee
in the subsequent financial years provided certain conditions
are fulfilled.
The maximum pension limit will be Rs. 750 per month.
The selection of the families to be benefited would be done
at the gram panchayat level.

Karnataka first State to provide Universal Health Coverage
Karnataka became the first State in India to provide Universal
Health Coverage to its population. It achieved the distinction
with the launch of Rajiv Arogya Yojana.
