PSK AND FSK

MODULATION

BY: BHADRECHA BHANESH B.

What is Modulation ?
Modulationistheprocessofvaryingoneormore
properties of a periodic waveform, called the
carrier signal (high frequency signal), with
amodulatingsignal that typically contains
informationtobetransmitted..
OR
In other words modulation is the process of
changing the characteristic properties of
carrier signal like amplitude, frequency and
phase

FSK(frequncyshiftkeying)
FSK is a frequency modulation scheme in

which digital information is transmitted

through discrete frequency changes of a carrier
wave
Frequency Shift

Keying Modulated signal is

obtained using IC 555 Timer
The standard digital data input frequency is

usually 150Hz

Amplitude and phase of carrier wave is not

changed in FSK.
Method used for generating FSK is

The simplest FSK is binary Fsk (BFSK).

BFSK uses 1 and 0 digital data where 1 is

called mark frequency and 0 is called space

frequency.
For 1 frequncy of carrier wave increases and

for 0 frequncy of carrier wave decreases.

PSK(phaseshiftkeying)
PSK is a frequency modulation scheme in

which digital information is transmitted

through discrete phase changes of a carrier
wave
Phase of the carrier is varied to represent

digital data (binary 0 or 1)

Amplitude and frequency remains constant.

If phase 0 deg to represent 0, 180 deg to

represent 1.

PSK

can be BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK, 16-PSK

depending upon number of bits.
