THE SPICY HU
Spice Chungu is to be a hub designed and structured in a unique and interactive
strategy targeting women who have overcome challenges on gender and equality
from rural Kenya. They will avail themselves at the space which will be a journey
through Training, Talks, orkshops and !resentations on social change. This journey
will "ow through the following avenues#
Identify participants who have overcome adversity and from the marginali$ed of
society from the region periodically and equip them with a handson training on
creative skills that foster critical thinking which will enable them to boldly
question and challenge decisions. The selection process will be through
advertisements, references from the community and followed by interviews by
e%perts to establish a background information on prospective participants.
S!ice C"#n$#% & centre where the selected participants will be trained on
creative skills that foster critical thinking e.g videography, photography, poetry,
art e.t.c. . The training will be conducted using a developed curriculumn geared
towards building self esteem and con'dence building. These skills will enable
participants voice out issues that matter to them most. They can also create
short educative 'lms and use them in awareness campaigns, use theatre and
poetry skills to educate and at the same time earn income thus building an active
thriving arts industry in western kenya. The participants are also e%pected to blog
about issues a(ecting them and possible solutions using the journalistic skills
that they acquire at the centre.
S!ice Stin$% This will be an organi$ed travel theatre by the participants and
alumini who are passionate about taking theatre as a full time activity. They will
be mentored and assisted to organi$e shows that challenge the peoples mindsets
across the county and use the skill to raise an income for themselves
Pi&i!i&i Ta&'(% which is a series of o()the)record discussions and debates that
address issues, which determine the womens social dynamics in estern Kenya.
This will be aimed at guaging whether the participants are able to think
di(erently, build con'dence and ability to articulate issues.
oo&a% This will be a forum through oral performances, narratives and !oetry by
women addressing their issues. *t will however be open to the general public.
N$o)a Ti)e is a showcase of the varied and competitive talents by women in
community through dance and music as a tool for social change#
*i'iria will present an interactive platform that brings together creative and
critical thinking professionals and young)upcoming women professionals from the
marginalised of society in Kenya so that they can share di(erent thoughts on
regional women challenges#
H#(i'a This will be our long term initiative to establish an opportunity to
mobili$e volunteers to work for and provide physical support for identi'ed
charities, organi$ations and institutions within estern Kenya that focus on
women issues as a form of internship programs
