Lets Recap!
Reading: We started our first unit in our Benchmark Reading Program. Identifying, stating,
and writing the main idea and details within a text were the focus for this week and will be for
the next two weeks. Also, each student is now assigned a color for guided reading groups.
They have a weekly schedule that will be followed each day of the week. During their choice
time, they are required to complete certain Daily 5 activities. I will be giving students a
completion grade each week based on our rubric.
Math: Our focus this week was on two-digit addition problems. We used many different
strategies throughout the week. We spent two days practicing the traditional algorithm.

Writing: We started our first unit in our Benchmark Writing Program. Our focus for the
following weeks will be on Personal Narratives. We listened to and evaluated other
authors personal narratives this week. We also wrote about connections we made to the
stories we listened to. All of the students were encouraged to bring in photographs from
his/her childhood. This will help us next week, as we continue to study Personal
Narratives.
S.S.: We wrapped up Chapter 2 Communities of Different Sizes. The students put
together a flipbook illustrating the differences between urban, suburban, and rural
communities. We ended the week with our Chapter 2 Test.
