Reading & Writing
This week we have been focusing on
reading comprehension skills.
Strategies we have been using include
predicting what will come next in the
story and questioning what has
happened.
Students have been working on
mastering their sight words. We have
been playing games to help make this
task fun. One game involves having
students read sight words that are
written on little Dixie cups. For every
word the student reads correctly, he/
she gets that cup. When we have
nished the list, students can build
things with the cups.
In writing, students have been editing
sentences and writing about their
favorite foods. I have learned that we
have lots of students who like bacon.
Math
Students using Touchmath strategies
have been having success. We have
started using it for subtraction
problems.
Behaviors
Students have been working on
modeling expected behaviors and
have been doing a fabulous job with
this. Students are highly motivated by
earning points through Classdojo.
When I decided to use Classdojo, I
wasnt sure how this would be
received. I am happy to report it is
motivating students and is being used
in many settings.
