Cadence Design Contest 2014

Tensilica Project

This project is only for full-time ME/MTech students.
Project Name
Stereo Acoustic Echo Cancellation (SAEC)
Project Outline
The objective of this project is to implement an adaptive Stereo Acoustic Echo Canceller (SAEC). The
model set-up is shown in the figure below.

Room
SAEC

x1(n), x2(n): Two channels of audio (from far end)
h1(n), h2(n): Room impulse response for speaker-1 to microphone and speaker-2 to microphone
v(n): Noise in the near-end room
1(n), 2(n): Estimated h1(n) and h2(n)
e(n): Residual echo, must be minimized adaptively in SAEC
Additional Information
Some simplifying assumptions are:
o No double-talk, i.e., there is no one talking in the near-end room simultaneously with the
far-end talker
o SAEC to be implemented for a single microphone in the near-end room
Audio characteristics:
o 16kHz sample rate, 16b/sample (each channel)

For the room impulse response, the room impulse response generator at
http://home.tiscali.nl/ehabets/rir_generator/rir_generator.pdf must be used with the following
parameters:
o Mandatory input parameters:
Sound velocity, c: 340 m/s
Sampling frequency, fs: 16000
Receiver xyz co-ordinates, r: variable
Source xyz co-ordinates, s: variable
Room dimensions (x,y,z), L: x and y to be up to 5m, z up to 3m
RT60 reverberation time, beta: 0.4
o Optional input parameters:
Use default for all except for the type of microphone (mtype)
mtype: Can be any of the possible options
There is no constraint on the type of algorithm to be implemented for adaptive AEC
Success Criteria
Evaluation would be based on relative performance. However, any implementation must meet the
following criteria:
o ERLE must be >20dB
o Initial convergence time <1s to achieve 20dB cancellation
o Convergence rate: >20dB/sec
Relative parameters that shall be used to evaluate the projects:
o Code size
o Minimum clock rate required to implement the algorithm
o Performance (over and above the parameters mentioned above)

Winning team - Rs. 25,000 (all team member including guide)
