1.1: Advocate for client access to the service of social work
I will gain knowledge on different services available and ensure those services
are available to all that need them within the community.
1.2: Practice personal reflection and self-correlation to assure
continual professional development
Constantly journal thoughts, feelings, and actions. Be self aware of feelings
that do not correlate with NASW Code of Ethics. Seek supervision on any area
that I feel confusion about while practicing in the field.
1.3: Attend to professional roles and boundaries
Ensure that I am behaving within the context of the NASW Code of Ethics
while engaging with client population.
1.4: Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior
Conduct oneself with respect and dignity. Show professionalism in the way I
communicate and interact with the clients.
1.5: Appearance and Communication
Show up to work in professional attire. Speak in terms of professional
understanding.


1.6: Engage in career-long learning and use supervision and
consultation
I will constantly seek new information in the social work field. I will also
attend continuing education courses to stay up on evidenced based practices. I
will also seek supervision daily with field supervisor to ensure learning is
taking place correctly.
2.1: Recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows
professional values to guide practice.
I will stay true to myself while maintaining my professional boundaries and
judgments based on the code of ethics.
2.2: Make ethical decisions by applying standards of the NASW
Code of Ethics and, as applicable, of the International Federation
of Social Workers/International Association of Schools of Social
Work Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles.
I will base my decisions on the content of the code of ethics and will seek
supervision if I am unsure of a course of action when possible.
2.3: Tolerate ambiguity in resolving ethical conflicts.
I will understand that differences in opinion do occur and that this may result
in confusion. Through the confusion I will remain calm and reflect the
behaviors of the social work profession.




2.4: Apply strategies of ethical reasoning to arrive at principled
decisions.
I will continue to familiarize myself with the code of ethics and evaluate my
decision making skills from them.

3.1: Distinguish, appraise, and integrate multiple sources of
knowledge, including research-based knowledge, and practice
wisdom.
I will attend monthly meeting in Raleigh on evidenced based practices, dealing
with the substance abusing population.
3.2: Analyze models of assessment, prevention, interventions, and
evaluation.
I will perform assessments and reanalyze personal treatment plans to ensure
client is receiving best treatment for him.
3.2: Demonstrate effective oral and written communication in
working with individuals, families, groups, organizations,
communities, and colleagues.
I will speak in a professional manner when dealing with individuals and the
people whom effect them. I will also write in a professional manner reflecting
the social work profession and its evidenced based practices and techniques.
4.1: Recognize the extent to which a cultures structures and
values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or enhancing
privilege and power.
I will familiarize myself with all cultures in which I deal with within my
practice.
4.2: Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence of
personal biases and values in working with diverse groups.
I will continue to work with my field supervisor and be honest when
conflicting feelings for a client arise. I will discuss those feelings, as they relate
to biases and values, with my supervisor and try to determine where these
feelings stem from.
4.3: Recognize and communicate their understanding of the
importance of difference in shaping life experiences.
I will work with my field supervisor on the importance of introducing new
communication skills and modeling them to the clients in a therapeutic way.
4.4: View themselves as learners and engage those with whom
they work as informants.
I will ask questions of my co-workers and try to gain a better understanding on
why and how clients behave and interact during social interactions.
5.1: Understand the forms and mechanisms of oppression and
discrimination.
I will familiarize myself with the backgrounds of the clients I deal with on a
daily basis. I will recognize forms of oppression and discrimination and
advocate for policies that will combat these.
5.2: Advocate for human rights and social and economic justice.
I will advocate for the clients I work with and advocate on their behalf when
they cannot.
5.3: Engage in practices that advance social and economic justice.
I will practice only with evidenced based practices that culturally sensitive to
all types of people. I will also seek resources to help my clients take care of
themselves and the communities in which they live.
6.1: Use practice experience to inform scientific inquiry.
Read two articles on evidenced based practices in dealing with the adolescent
substance abusing population.
6.2: Use research evidence to inform practice.
Apply knowledge learned from reading evidenced based practice journals and
apply them when working with clients.


7.1: Utilize conceptual frameworks to guide the processes of
assessment, intervention, and evaluation.
I will use the person centered approach for all assessments, interventions, and
evaluations because all clients are different so services should reflect this.

7.2: Critique and apply knowledge to understand person and
environment.
I will continue to learn about substance abuse and educate myself on issues that
I may encounter that I am not sure about (i.e. Gangs, Certain Substances, Slang,
etc.).
8.1: Analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies and advance social
well-being.
As a social worker I will analyze policy so I can educate my clients on how this
effects them. I will also formulate policy for the benefit of the social work
profession. I will advocate for people in society whom need services to live
happy productive lives.

8.2: Collaborate with colleagues and clients for effective policy action.
As a intern I will speak with my colleagues on ways to effect policy. I will also
engage with clients about how policy could better serve them.
9.1: Continuously discover, appraise, and attend to changing locales,
populations, scientific and technological developments, and emerging
societal trends to provide relevant services.
I will familiarize myself with all the different locations that the clients I serve
are from. I will also stay updated with different software used in producing
notes for agencies like mine.

9.2: Provide leadership in promoting sustainable changes in service
delivery and practice to improve the quality of social services.
I will attend staff meetings to stay informed on new policies being
implemented to serve adolescent juvenile substance abusers. I will also attend
a evidenced based practice seminar once a month in Raleigh, N.C. to stay
updated on new therapies.
10.1: Substantively and affectively prepare for action with
individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
I will prepare myself for action with individuals, families, groups,
organizations, and communities through reading and doing research on the
problems that affect them.
10.2: Use empathy and other interpersonal skills.
I will put myself in the clients shoes whenever dealing with them and apply the
skills I learned from Practice I at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
10.3: Develop a mutually agreed-on focus work.
I will research and perform a focus of work that incorporates the beliefs I have
in therapy to help the individuals I serve.
10.4: Collect, organize and interpret client data.
I will be knowledgeable about data that I collect, organize, and interpret so I
can help the clients I serve to the best of my ability.
10.5: Assess client strengths and limitations.
I will assess clients strengths and limitations in regards to the services I am
providing through the profession of social work.
10.6: Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives.
I will develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives to best serve the
clients that I work with in regards to the social work profession.
10.7: Select appropriate intervention strategies.
I will select strategies that treat the symptoms that the clients I serve are exhibiting.
10.8: Initiate actions to achieve organizational goals.
I will involve myself with goals that my organization wishes to achieve.
10.9: Implement prevention interventions that enhance client
capacities.
I will use intervention with clients that most effectively make use of their capacities.
10.10: Help clients resolve problems.
I will be available to help clients resolve problems.
10.11: Negotiate, mediate, and advocate for clients.
I will always listen and become involved in negotiating, mediating, and advocating
for clients when I am able to.
10.12: Facilitate transitions and endings.
I will make sure that I am providing the clients with information in regards to
the transitions and ending throughout their treatment.
10.13: Social workers critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate
interventions.
I will continuously analyze, monitor, and evaluate interventions to ensure the
client is receiving the best treatment for them as a consumer.
