Nationalist Revolution

(Andres Bonifacio and the Katipunan)


Andres Bonifacio, Valentin Diaz,
Teodoro Plata, Ladislao Diwa,
Deodato Arellano, and a few others
then founded the Kataas-taasang
Kagalang-galang na Katipunan
nang mga Anak nang Bayan on
July 7, 1892 at a house on Azcarraga
street (now Claro M. Recto), in Tondo
Manila.
As a symbol of the members loyalty,
they performed the solemn rite of
sanduguan, wherein each one signed
his name with his own blood.
AIMS OF THE KATIPUNAN
To unite Filipinos into one solid nation

To secure the independence and
freedom of the Philippines by force
of arms

To establish a republic after
independence

two new members who were not
related to each other.

Katipunan
On June 1896, Bonifacio sent Dr. Pio
Valenzuela to Dapitan to seek Rizals
advice on the planned revolution
Rizals Advice:

Timing was not right
The people were not yet ready and
they did not have enough weapons.
Recommended Antonio Luna as
commander of armed forces
However, there was
no stopping the Revolution.

Bonifacio ordered his men to
prepare for battle.
BUT THEY WERE DISCOVERED
ON AUGUST 19, 1896

On August 26, 1896, the Katipuneros
tore their cedulas and shouted
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

THE TEJEROS
CONVENTION
The Tejeros Convention was called to
decide whether to establish a new
government to replace the Katipunan
or not.
Aguinaldo won as president while
Bonifacio was relegated as the
Director of the Interior.

Bonifacio refused to recognize the
new government

He left with his followers for Naik and
established his own government.
THE DEATH OF ANDRES
BONIFACIO

Aguinaldo ordered the arrest of the
Bonifacio brothers.
They were executed somewhere in
the mountains of Maragondon in
Cavite on May 10, 1897.
The Katipunan and its founder were
now dead.
