How I represented a particular

social group in my magazine.


THE SOCIAL GROUP THAT MY MAGAZINE WAS MEANT TO REPRESENT WAS
BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16 AND 18. THEY WERE STUDENTS WHO TOOK THEIR
EDUCATION SERIOUSLY BUT ALSO VALUED THEIR SOCIAL LIVES AND HOW
THEY PRESENTED THEMSELVES. AT THIS AGE , STUDENTS LIVE WITH THEIR
PARENTS AND DEPEND ON THEM FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT UNLESS THEY
HAVE PART TIME JOBS , I KEPT THIS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN THE PRICE OF
THE MAGAZINE WAS DECIDED ON AS IT HAD TO BE AFFORDABLE FOR THE
TARGET AUDIENCE.
HOW DID I REPRESENT A PARTICULAR
SOCIAL GROUP THROUGH CONVENTIONS IN
MY CONTENTS PAGE?
MY CONTENTS PAGES CONSISTED OF MULTIPLE ARTICLES
THAT RELATED TO THE EVERY DAY PROBLEMS AND LIVES OF
THE SOCIAL GROUP MY MAGAZINE WAS AIMED TOWARDS.
(STUDENTS). I ALSO USED THE COLOURS OF THE COLLEGE
LOGO IN THE CONTENTS PAGE SO THAT STUDENTS COULD
ONCE AGAIN IDENTIFY THE FACT THAT THIS MAGAZINE IS
ESPECIALLY FOR THEM.

AS SEEN ON THE FRONT PAGE OF MY COLLEGE MAGAZINE AS WELL AS THE CONTENTS
PAGE , THE TARGET AUDIENCES MAIN INTERESTS WERE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN
DECIDING ON THE ARTICLE TOPICS. THE ARTICLES INCLUDED INFORMATION ABOUT
ACTIVITIES IN NORWICH , WHICH WOULD HELP STUDENTS DO MORE THAN JUST LIE
AROUND AND WATCH TV. THE MAGAZINE ALSO INCLUDED INFORMATION TO HELP
STUDENTS OUT WHEN THEY GET BEHIND ON COLLEGE WORK. OTHER ARTICLES THAT WERE
INCLUDED IN THE MAGAZINE WERE ABOUT MAKE-UP , SPORTS AND SALES/SPECIALS.
THESE ARE ALL THINGS THAT WERE SAID TO BE INTERESTING TO THE STEREOTYPICAL
TARGET AUDIENCE OF THIS MAGAZINE WHEN I WAS DOING RESEARCH FOR THIS
MAGAZINE.

ON MY FRONT PAGE AS WELL AS ON MY CONTENTS PAGE , THERE WERE
IMAGES OF A MODEL WHO WAS THE STEREO TYPICAL EXAMPLE OF A STUDENT
(THE SOCIAL GROUP I WISHED TO REPRESENT THROUGH MY MAGAZINE). TO
REPRESENT THE EDUCATIONAL SIDE OF COLLEGE , MY MODEL WAS HOLDING
EITHER A BOOK OR A FOLDER IN EACH PHOTO. IN THE CONTENTS PAGE SHE
WAS ALSO SHOWN SITTING AT A DESK. THE SOCIAL/FUN SIDE OF COLLEGE WAS
REPRESENTED BY HER OUTFIT , WHICH WAS THE LATEST COLLEGE FASHION, AS
WELL AS THE AGE SHE LOOKED. SHE WAS ALSO WEARING MAKE UP WHICH IS
ONE OF THE MANY INTERESTS THAT MY TARGET AUDIENCE WANTED TO KNOW
ABOUT AND WAS ALSO ONE OF THE TOPICS OF THE ARTICLES THAT WAS
INCLUDED IN THE MAGAZINE.
