patients along #ith those undergoing cardiothoracic and vascular surgery %n in!depth
analysis of the pre!anesthesia assess"ent, perioperative considerations and "anage"ent
techniques along #ith post anesthesia "onitoring necessary to assure a positive outco"e
are presented % detailed revie# of the co""only occurring co"plications and their
"anage"ent techniques are discussed
COURSE O:;ECTI9ES:
1 &iscuss the physiologic differences bet#een adult and pediatric patients #ith
regard to body co"position, anato"ical differences, and co""only occurring
pediatric disorders
' &escribe the anato"ical and physiological differences of the CNS, cardiac,
pul"onary and renal syste"s bet#een ne#born, child, pregnant patients and the
older adult requiring cardiovascular surgery
'
( )xa"ine pre!operative, intra!operative and post!operative evaluation and
interventions co""only needed in the care of the pediatric, obstetric, trau"a, and
cardiovascular surgical patient
* +ist relative contraindications and special considerations in using anesthetics in
these specific populations
, +ist the co""only utili-ed techniques to provide anesthesia for pediatric patients
. Understand the anato"y of the placenta and placental transfer of drugs at ter"
/ &iscuss the factors influencing placental transfer of "edication co""only used in
providing obstetrical anesthesia
0 )xplain the phar"acological and non!phar"acological "ethods utili-ed for pain
relief during labor
1 &iscuss the effect of anesthetics to fetus, and appropriate "onitoring interventions
e"ployed in the care of an obstetrical patient having non!fetal surgery
12 &iscuss delivery of anesthesia to patients undergoing cardiothoracic and vascular
surgery #ith specific focus on invasive "onitoring and cardio pul"onary bypass
