LICENSE TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE

For Network Programs using a Computer ID key for locking


Use the following guideline to resolve the problem when you get a License Not Found
message.
Your C! program can be licensed to run on multiple computers so that several computers can
share it. !n this case a computer networ" is re#uired so that all computers that are authori$ed to
run the software are connected. % special program& the Sentinel RMS License Manager, must be
installed onto one or more computers in the networ" to coordinate the use of the C! program.
'he license server has access to the license codes for the program. (hen a program starts& it
communicates with the license server to obtain a license.
!n order for your networ"ed program to wor" properly the following ) items must be true.

1. 'he Sentinel RMS License Manager must be installed and running.
2. Your computer must be able to detect the Computer !* "ey.
3. 'he License Manager must recogni$e the license code for the C! software.
4. % client wor"station must be able to get a license from the License Manager.

Item 1. Chec" that the Sentinel RMS License Manager is installed and running.
!f it is installed there should be an entry for Sentinel RMS License Manager in %dd+,emove
-rograms on the Control -anel. !f it is not installed please refer to the !nstallation !nstructions
which are included with your software pac"age. You can also find the instructions in a .pdf file in
the root directory of your C*.
Ne.t chec" if the Sentinel RMS License Manager is running. /!t should be started automatically
after installation and every time your computer is rebooted.0 1o to ervices in the Control -anel.
'he location depends on which operating system you are using. Locate the entinel ,2 entry
and chec" that the status shows tarted. !f not& then right button clic" on the entinel ,2 line
and choose tart.
Ne.t chec" the communication re#uired for the license server. tart WlmAdmin.exe. 'his can
be run from
tart 3 -rograms 3 program version (level) erver4License 2anager 3 License 2anager
%dministration.
%lternatively& this program is located& by default installation& in
C54-rogram Files4Computers and tructures4program version (level) erver4License 2anager
!f you get the message entinelL25 6rror 789: -robably no servers running on this subnet
it is possible your firewall is preventing communication. U*- port ;<=> must be open in
order for communication to occur between server and client. 'here is a diagnostic tool to

Item 2. Chec" that your computer can detect the Computer !* "ey.
'he most common reason the license is not found is that your computer does not recogni$e the
Computer !* "ey& or C!* "ey 'o chec" this& remove all hardware devices e.cept the parallel port
C!* "ey /or the U@ C!* "ey& depending on which was sent to you0 and then run Wec!oID.exe
also located in the program folder defined above. 'his will bring up a window as follows5
!f the Computer !* chec" bo. is grayed out as in the above e.ample then your computer cannot
recogni$e the C!* "ey and your license wonAt wor".
'he entinel ystem *river necessary to recogni$e the C!* "ey is automatically installed when
the C! program is installed from the C* browser. !f the program is not installed from the
browser but run as etup.e.e then you will need to install the entinel ystem *river manually.
'he installation for it is located in the ?ey*river folder under the C! program folder.

,emove any U@ "eys you might have attached to your computer and then doubleBclic" on
setup.e.e to install the driver. 'his is a oneBtime installation. You should not need to perform the
installation again unless you uninstall it. !f you get no error messages& reBboot your machine. 'he
setup is now complete.

,un Wec!oID.exe again /reBattach your U@ "ey if you have one0 and chec" whether the
Computer !* bo. is now available. !f the computer !* "ey chec" bo. is still grayed out then try
the following steps.
tart the driver configuration utility& "etup"ysDri#er.exe. You can download this from the
following F'- site.

Clic" the DConfigure *riverD button as seen in the picture below.
!f you have a parallel port C!* "ey and the following screen is displayed& then the port is not
configured correctly. 'ry the following to configure the port.
Eit the %dd button and the following screen will be displayed. 6nter >9F into the D@us
%ddressD field.

Clic" the DG?D button and the following dialog will appear5

Clic" the G? button and the following screen appears. !t shows that a User Created port has
been added at address >9F.
Clic" the G? button to close the dialog and then open the File menu and choose 6.it to close
the entinel ystem *river Configuration Utility.

Now run Wec!oID.exe again and the Computer !* chec" bo. should be white /enabled0.
Unchec" all the chec" bo.es e.cept for the Computer !* chec" bo. as shown below and
ma"e note of the Loc"ing *ata at the bottom of the window.
Item 3. Chec" that the license server recogni$es the license code.
'he installation C*B,G2 of C! software contains a >< day trial networ" license for one user.
'his license is automatically copied when the software is installed but must be registered with the
license server. (,efer to the !nstallation !nstructions for information on registering the license.0
'his allows immediate use of the program prior to obtaining a permanent license. 'he trial license
can be used on any computer acting as a server but it will only be good for >< days from the day
it is first installed. !f you have not received your permanent license then it is possible that your
trial license has e.pired.
'o chec" the license& run the WlmAdmin.exe program located in the program folder defined
above. 6.pand ubnet ervers and e.pand the server name. You should see the license for your
program under the server name.

!f the license is there& e.pand the license and chec" the license type. !t should show Normal
License& not 'rial License. 'he erver H8 loc"ing code should match the Loc"ing *ata
from the Wec!oID.exe window as shown previously. %lso chec" the license start and e.piration
date and the C-U cloc" to confirm that the license is still valid.
6ven if the license shows there& you may still not be able to get a license because the permanent
license sent to you might have the wrong loc"ing code. 'he license has to match the code for
your C!* "ey.
'o get more information about your license code run lsdecode.exe found$ by default installation&
in
C54-rogram Files4Computers and tructures4CSI program erver4License 2anager.
You should see the following5

'he License 'ype should show Normal Networ". !f it shows 'rial Networ" instead then
un$ip the license file that was emailed to you into the above directory and try again. !f we have
not emailed you a Normal license then you should contact us at /;8<0F);BC899 or
licenseJcsiber"eley.com to get one.
Ne.t& ma"e note of the erver loc"ing code and chec" that the Loc" code depends on shows
entinel Computer !*. 'he erver loc"ing code must match the code shown in the
Wec!oID.exe window from above.
!f the two numbers are different then email us at licenseJcsiber"eley.com and include a screen
capture of your lsdecode.exe *G screen and Wec!oID.exe window.
!f the two numbers are the same but the license does not show in the WlmAdmin.exe window
then you might not have registered the license or the registration did not wor" properly. 'ry the
following 5
i) Double click on lsLicense.bat which is also located in the License Manager folder. This
should register the license file with the license server. If you get an error 93 instead then it
probably means you ran this batch file more than once and the license is already registered. You
can check for the license in the WlmAdmin window.
ii0 !f the license failed to register& you may have a problem using this method if your license
server already has an e.pired or trial license file. You may get
entinelL25 6rror 789: -robably no servers running on this subnet
entinelL25 6rror 78=: Failed to add license
!n this case you can use WlmAdmin.exe to add the license as follows5

,un WlmAdmin.exe$ e.pand ubnet ervers and e.pand the server name. elect the license you
wish to replace. *o a right button clic" on the license and select ,emove Feature to eliminate the
trial or e.pired license.
Now do a right button clic" on the server name.

!n the file window which appears& locate the license file Klser#rcA for your program and hit
Gpen.
'he license should now show. You might need to refresh the (lm%dmin window. Confirm that
the license shows the License 'ype as Normal License. You should now be able to obtain a
license from any client wor"station on the networ". ,efer to !tem > below to resolve any
problems with a client wor"station.
Item 4. Chec" that the client wor"station is able to get a license from the license server.
'he Sentinel RMS License Manager is a program that coordinates use of a protected application
by multiple users and computers. 'his program usually runs on a computer that is located on the
same subnet as any computer that needs to run the application. 'he computers that run the
application are called clients. (hen a protected application is started on the client& it sends a
re#uest for a license across the networ" to the license server. 'he license server grants the re#uest
if possible and returns an authori$ation message bac" to the client.
'he client on a different subnet server can also obtain the license by specifying a sstem
environment variable called LFG,C6EG' as follows5

,un the Wlmadmin.exe program found in the program folder defined above and record the !-
address and erver name.

a. For (indows =F B you need to add the following line in the autoe.ec.bat file.

Note that if your networ" is using dynamic !- addresses then you should use the erver name
instead of the !- address.

%lso& open the !osts file located in C54(indows4ystem>C4*rivers46'C folder and add the
following line at the end of the file5

ave this file and reboot the machine. 'his should resolve the problem with a Client wor"station.
