RULE OF

THIRDS
By Issy Burgham
What is the rule of thirds?
The rule of thirds is like a grid of 9 parts
that identifies four important parts of the
images youre taking.
example;
On the lines of the grid, you can see the
more of the interesting elements are
along the line and not on the centre. This
photograph is more balanced as your
eyes can interact more with the
intersection points.
The Grid
A way to imagine the rule of thirds is
breaking down an image ((in your mind))
into thirds both horizontally and vertically
so you have 9 parts.
Why do photographers use it?
Studies have shown that when we view
an image, its a natural instinct for our
eyes to wonder over to one of the
intersection points rather than the centre.
The rule of thirds places the points we find
more interesting on the intersections point
so that the photo becomes more
balance and viewers can interact with it
more naturally.
