This quarter we will be emphasizing how to use the ELEMENTS of Art to create the PRINCIPLES of Design
EACH WEEK we will discuss one of the Principles. You will be responsible for COMPLETING AND TURNING IN the
worksheet for the week. Each is due on Friday. Write your name and the due date on each. Each worksheet is
worth 50 pts. You will choose one image to trace and use in each example. (see examples)

DEFINITONS:
ELEMENTS of Art
The elements of art are components or parts of a work of art that can be isolated and defined. They are the building
blocks used to create a work of art. Download a student handout containing a list of theelements of art and
their definitions.

PRINCIPLES of Design
The Principles are concepts used to organize or arrange the structural elements of design. The way in which these
principles are applied affects the expressive content, or the message of the work.
