Marzano's 6 lnstructional Strategies

1. Cooperative Learning

Encourages students to work together in groups.
Emphasizes cooperation rather than competition. Any age can use and
uses high engagement when students share tasks. Difficulty is meat when
students do not want to work together.
2. Advanced Organizers
-
Vary the style of advanced organizers that you
use in the classroom; tell a story, skim text, create a graphic image.
Exposing students to information before they rearn it is the goal.
3. Similarities and Differences
-
Ability to break down a concept into its
similarities and differences, which helps students to understand complex
problems.
students can compare, classify and create analogies and
metaphors.
4. Cues and Questions
-
Helps students to use what they already know about
a topic to enhance further learning. Questions help to increase the depth
of a student's thinking.
5. Nonlinguistic Representations/Graphic organizers
-
Helps to give
students visual and stimulates brain activity. lncorporates words and
images/symbols to represent relationships. Helps to represent
information.
6. Homework and Practice
-
Provides students with an opportunity to extend
learning outside of the classroom. Should vary based on grade level and
have little parent involvement. Use homework as practice
for tasks and
have an established homework policy in place.
