Purpose, aims or research questions of article:
The purpose of this article was to make sure occupational health nurses know which tasks can be delegated, how to determine the competency of
the person you are delegating the task to, and what level of supervision is necessary for that person.

Write one or two paragraphs in which you summarize the information from this source. Your statements should be written using your
words, plus they should be clearly and concisely stated. Include an in-text citation:

When nurses look into delegating tasks to others, they need to consider the legal ramifications, safety of the patients, and protect the nurses and
their employers. The first is to find out what the rules and laws are for their state. They can do this by reading the State Board of Nursing statutes
and rules and also look at the State Nurse Practice Act. They will tell them what tasks may be delegated, competency requirements, and level of
supervision needed. For instance, the Standards of Practice of the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing (Wisconsin Administrative Code, 2006)
defines delegation as the acts delegated to an LPN or less-skilled assistant by an RN. (pg. 15). This will help the nurse so she/he will not get in
trouble for negligence.

Nurses also need to make sure that the person they are delegating the task to is competent to make sure the patient stays safe. The nurse needs to
look at the persons education, training, or experience before deciding to give that task to that person. The nurse needs to plan it out by making
sure the person is competent to carry out the task. Then the nurse needs to implement by observing the person perform the task before letting them
do it by themselves. This way the nurse will know the person is competent and the patient will remain safe.
