Someone has posted a video that shows me reciting my dear old friend Ghulam
Mohammad Qasir's couplets. The purpose is to show that I have recited his couplets
in my own name. I want to make this matter clear.
This video has been tempered with. I was presiding over a function for the release of
a Hindi book of poetry by Rakesh Khandelwal.The function was held in Durga
Temple in Virginia. When I had finished my presidential speech, the audience asked
me to recite from memory some couplets. They know only Hindi and but they always
enjoy Urdu ghazal couplets. I am personally not much enamored of Ghazal but I keep
them in good humor always. I recited some of own poems as also some ghazal
couplets. But before reciting some of these couplets I said these were from an old
friend from Peshawar, Mr. G.M. Qasir. It seems some one (I know it is a particular
person from Germany, who is fond of such pranks) has tempered with the video. I
have watched it carefully. It starts suddenly, as if just one second before, there was
something and it has been cut off from the tape and my voice is heard. I remember, i
had told the audience that my childhood was spent in Peshawar and I have dozens of
friends there and I recited some couplets from Faraz, Mohsin Ehsan, Khatir
Ghaznavi, Zahur Eiwan and Ghulam Mohammad Qasir. Alas, all of them are now
no more. I have been left alone to face such silly and mischievous pranks.
