SECOND SEMESTER FIRST TEST.

Text: A naming ceremony

In traditional Africa, when a baby is born, there is a naming ceremony. This generally takes
place seven days after the babys birth.
It is the duty of the babys parents to inform and invite all the members of the extended
family and the villagers.
To do this, parents send messengers who give cola nuts to the villagers early in the morning,
seven days before the day of the ceremony. To choose the babys name, the head of the family
consults the spirits of the familys ancestors.
The baby then can receive the name of an ancestor who is believed to come back, or simply
bear the name corresponding to the day of his birth.
When the day arrives, the head of the extended family makes the appropriate sacrifices and
shouts the given name to the crowd. After that, people begin to eat, drink and dance in the
village and everybody is happy.
