Assessment Summary
Brainstorm/ Discussion- Students will brainstorm who in our community requires first aid. They will list and discuss what they know about first aid prior to this course. We will also have a carousel discussion where students will identify what they know about first aid and what kind of care first aid includes. This information will help the instructor determine and assess how much information the students know about first aid. Ranking- After covering illnesses and injuries that students will learn care for, students will complete a worksheet. The worksheet will focus on the ranking of importance for each injury and illness listed. This will let the instructor know if the students understand which injuries are more serious and could potentially be life threatening. Students should be able to identify which injuries that are of higher threat. Quiz- This quiz will cover basic first aid questions. These questions are similar to those in American Heart Association certification classes. The quiz includes true or false, multiple choice, and short answer to allow students to critically think. This quiz will cover personal protective equipment, hand washing, phoning for help, and assessing a ill or injured person. J eopardy- In this activity students will be put into small teams and they will need to critically for each scenario given. The instructor will give the class scenarios and then the students will write down what they will do next to give care. This will allow the instructor to see where students might be struggling when having to make decision based on different situations. Quick Assessment & Reflection- Students will be given time in class to cover skills they will be tested on later. Each student will be given a chance to go through a mock kills test. Upon completion, each student will then be able to receive feedback from the instructor and then complete a self- reflection on what they can improve on. This assessment will allow both instructor and student to see where they need improvement. (Glove removal and finding the problem.) Critical Performance Skills- Each student will have to complete skills testing. They will have to complete several steps to ensure they are competent each skill. (Glove removal and finding the problem.) Poster Presentation- Students will be creating a poster covering one injury or illness they will be randomly assigned. They will have to briefly discuss details of the injury or illness and they present they best way to care for a person with the injury or illness, using what they have learned in class.
