GPS Reflection

For this English project my peers and I, had to research a topic to persuade which side is the best.
The topic my group and I accentuated on was around the death penalty. This was a real challenge
because my classmates chose mundane topics, like which is better orange juice or apple juice. I
chose this topic because its sensitive topic and people believes this punishment is always right
for high level of criminals. I argued that the death penalty was divisive and clashed with the
moral principle that every man or woman has the right to life, even if its behind bars.
(GLPOS) The student develops an argument based on multiple perspectives that addresses a
counter argument that draws reasonable conclusions in response to a globally focused question.
Many people are for the death penalty legislation, for the argument that their presence brings a
criminal presence in any society. But blood for blood is not the way to solve an issue like this.
California has the three strikes policy. Its when a certain person commits three crimes and
depending on the persons records, determines the length behind bars. The crime can be as
stealing a pack of gum to give you the third strike to put you behind bars. Many states have the
death penalty sentence. Major states in our country, such as California and New York have the
death penalty. Taking a human life away is inhuman and is the wrong thing to do, always. One
might say that, one person does not have the right to take away a life because of their actions.
I understand this was a very sensitive topic to begin with, but I believe it was the best way to
practice persuasive writing, because it has many perspective and reasons. This project makes me
a globally competent student because I understand perspectives of others and create a counter
argument with reasonable conclusions.
