once again for your continued support at home! Students are really displaying enthusiasm for their new language! Students are especially enjoying our morning activity of Mini Prof. They are eager to have their turn. In French literacy, we con- tinue to explore our unit: What makes me unique?; re- viewing previously learned structures and will be describ- ing pets, family members and hobbies. The goal for the end of this month is to be able to write a descriptive text about pets and/or family members based on the teachers model and shared writing lessons. Our daily 5 centres are up and running!! Students have done an outstanding job at developing their resistance to read or write with no distrac- tions. During this time, I con- ference with students in small groups to practice sounds, reading strategies as well as oral communication. When practicing the sound duo-tang, we have been encour- aging students to follow with their finger while they read. This is important to ensure that it does not become a re- peating exercise, especially when using the website. We would appreciate if you could reinforce this at home as well while your child is doing the reading homework. In math, we have and will continue to explore number patterns, place value, skip counting and estimating quanti- ties up to 1000. Students will collect and interpret first-hand data to organize it in a variety of ways. Review of basic facts has been going well. Students are using the strategies learned to help them recall the facts quickly and efficiently. This month, we will be adding the strategy thinking addition for subtraction so that we can begin the recall of subtraction facts starting in December. We will continue our weekly math quiz to reinforce these strategies. We will also begin reviewing and learning strategies for adding larger numbers (2-digit by 2-digit) so that students may find an efficient strategy that works best for them. During English instruction time, we are integrating English Language Arts with Social Studies. We have been doing a novel study on Nova Scotian author Budge Wilsons Madame Belzile and Ramsay Hitherton- Hobbs to help us learn how to write a descriptive report so that they may write one of their own. The novel also ties in with our Social Studies unit of What makes us feel part of our community? and how we identify interactions that build or destroy relationships. Have a wonderful month!

Did you know that there are French books and songs that we have learned and read together in class on our class website? If you click on the Les chansons/livres page, you will see a variety of songs as well as books on familiar topics that we have read together in class. Each student is also given a copy of the book to put in their duotang Units intgres that we use on a daily basis in class. Singing along to, or reading the books out loud will help students recall familiar words and phrases that they have learned in class as well as enrich their French learning. This is a great way to prepare students for when they begin to bring home French books for reading homework in January. If at any time you need to talk to me or have concerns, please send me a note in your childs agenda or phone the school at 847-6206. You can also touch base with me through email at: nadinel.martin@nbed.nb.ca Please let me know when would be a good time to contact you and I will do so at a time that is convenient for you. Thank you in advance for the hard work you are doing with your children. Your ef- forts do no go unnoticed. Merci! Extra Reading for Homework? Check out the Weebly!! Questions or Concerns? Fall is here and the cooler temperatures have started! We often see more rain (and even snow!) during this season. Since students can spend a total of 70 minutes outside at school (before school and at recesses), students should dress appropri- ately for the weather. There is no harm in having an extra pair of pants, socks, mitts, tuque and sweater in their backpack. Fall Is Here!
