Sea of Green

Dedicated to the people

of Iran who struggle
for freedom from
those who would
suppress them with
religion and politics.

Beneath the Sea of Green
surface stirs a seething
anger at those who have
so assiduously subverted
religion & rule of law
to suppress the people.

Yet know well that

slowly but surely
the Sea of Green swells
will rise & swallow
those that stirred
this ocean's ire.
 I am Iran.
I am Green.
I sought not confrontation.
It came to me a thief
in night that stole my vote.
I accept this burden.

I am not brave.
I am filled with fear.
Yet I must not
cower under covers.
If I do they will
come for me
and put me in chains.
 Better the chains
they swing kill me
than bind me to the ground
beneath the heel of tyranny.
I'm a bird
meant to fly free.

I am Iran.
I am Green.
I shall be free.
Of this I vow.
