Overview of Network Optimization

About This Chapter

Radio network optimization indicates the activities that you collect and analyze the data of the
running network or the network to be put in to operation, and to check the causes for affecting
the network operation quality. By modifying the parameters and some methods, the network
optimization ensures that the network performance and resources are optimized and provides
appropriate suggestions for future network maintenance and planning.
Radio network optimization pursues cost-effective use of network resources, improves the
quality of service (QoS) to an utmost extent, and accumulates the basis and experience for the
future network expansion.

1 Overview of Network Optimization

1.1 Start Conditions of Network Optimization

Radio network optimization, which plays an important role in the overall radio network solution,
is started only in specific conditions.
Radio network optimization can be started in the following conditions:
l

After the network is put into operation or after the network is expanded.
After the network is put into operation or expanded, the network is relatively poor. You
need to monitor the overall performance of the network, and supplement and modify the
aspects those are not considered in the network planning to improve the network quality
and efficiency.

When the radio network quality is deteriorated.

When the radio network quality is deteriorated, for example, the propagation environment
or the radio network quality is deteriorated because of the propagation environment and
traffic volume changes. The radio network optimization can be started to modify the
network parameters in time and to ensure the effective and stable network operation.

1.2 Input and Output of Network Optimization

Before starting network optimization, make related engineering documents and current network
data ready. After network optimization, write corresponding engineering reports and make
corresponding records.
Before starting radio network optimization, make the following documents ready:
l

Radio network planning report

Engineering parameter table

Cell parameter table

Other information about the existing network (traffic statistics, alarms, subscriber
complaints, and historical optimization records)

After radio network optimization, write out the following documents.

l

Radio network acceptance report

Radio network optimization report

Engineering parameter table and engineering parameter optimization record

Cell parameter table and cell parameter optimization record

1.3 Process of Network Optimization

This describes the network optimization process. The overall network optimization process
consists of preparations for network optimization, single site verification, RF optimization,
service optimization, and network acceptance.

Description

Preparations
for Network
Optimization

Before starting network optimization, find out existing network problems and
network optimization objective. Collect the related information and
documents. Prepare the necessary tools and software to ensure smooth
operation. Determine the final optimization objective according to the
requirements for a CDMA network. This item can be used to measure network
acceptance.

Single Site
Verification

Verify that the functions and services of a single site are normal and check
that the data configuration is consistent with the radio network planning.

Familiar yourself with the site conditions and collect the information about
the surrounding of the site to provide a basis for future optimization.

RF optimization ensures the radio signal coverage in the network and

solves the service failures problems related with RF problems.

RF optimization is performed for site clusters, that is, more than one site
are grouped into a site cluster for optimization.

RF optimization is performed according to DT data.

During RF optimization by area, the borders of the areas also need to be

optimized.
