Function
The main function of the epidermis is
protection.
The main function of the deepest layer of the
epidermis, the stratum Basale, is to house
the only epidermal cells that receive
nourishment via the diffusion of nutrients from
the dermis.
The main function of the outermost layer, the
stratum Corneum, is to provide an overcoat
for the body. This will protect deeper cells
from air and from water loss and help the
body resists biological, chemical, and
physical assaults.
The main function is to be the hide of the
body by being strong and stretchy. It helps
hold the body together.
The main function of the papillary layer is to
house the dermal papillae.
The main function of the dermal papillae to
house the capillary loops which gives
nutrients to the epidermis. These are what
form fingerprints.
The main function of Meissners Corpuscles
are to serve as touch receptors housed in the
dermal papillae. They respond to stimuli from
outside the body and allow us to feel a touch
or feel clothes against our body.
The main function of the reticular layer is to
be the location of vessels, sweat and oil
glands, and Pacinian corpuscles. The
phagocytes in this layer prevent bacteria from
entering deeper in the body.
The main function of the Pacinian Corpuscles
in their being deep pressure receptors in the
dermis of the skin. The Pacinian Corpuscles
can detect pressure. They protect deeper
tissues from mechanical damage, such as
bumps and cuts. They alert us when these
bumps and cuts involve deep pressure.
The main function of this is to produce sweat
to help cool off the body and regulate heat
when the heat when the bodys external temp
is too high.
The main function of this gland is to produce
oil that moisturizes the skin
The main function of this is to connect each
side of the hair follicle to the dermal tissue.
The main function of hair is protection of
things like foreign particles and shielding the

eyes.
The main function of the veins is to transport
deoxygenated blood back to the heart and
lungs to become oxygenated.
The main function of arteries is to carry
oxygenated blood to the skin layers and
throughout the body to nourish them.
The main function of the hypodermis is to
house the adipose tissue.
The main function of the adipose is to store
energy, cushion/protect, and insulate.
