Arctic Monkeys Biography

The Arctic Monkeys are an English, Indie Rock
band with 37 wins and 78 nominations. The
band was formed in 2002 in Sheffield, England.
The band has 4 current members Alex Turner
(Lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (lead
guitar and former backing vocals), Nick OMalley
(bass and backing vocals), and Matt Helders
(drums, backing vocals). The band also has one
former member Andy Nicholson who formerly
played bass guitar and backing vocals, he left the
band shortly after the Arctic Monkeys released
their debut album.
The Arctic Monkeys first begun with Alex Turner and Jamie Cook after both receiving guitars
for Christmas in 2001. Shortly after this Alex and Jamie
started jamming with a couple of school friends, Andy
Nicholson and Matt Helders. They started doing gigs in
2003 and only shared their cd demos with their fans.
The Arctic Monkeys fans then created a Myspace fan
account for them and shared their music with the
world. By creating this Myspace page The Arctic
Monkeys gained most of their fame. Since then they
have released 5 albums 3 eps, lost a member, gained a member and won multiple awards
and nominations. The Arctic Monkeys became famous in (back in 2003) an interesting and
new way, through social media.
The Arctic Monkeys have a unique style of music. Most of their songs are not typically pop
like more alternative and indie rock. Arctic Monkeys received their name after being
inspired by a poet.
The Arctic Monkeys have been creating music for more than 10 years now and hopefully
they will continue for another couple of decades.
