Math

Navigating Non-Fiction
In our second unit students will learn how to effectively read non-fiction texts. Students will learn
strategies for comprehending non-fiction, how to
recognize cause and effect as well as fact and opinion in non-fiction, and how to build ideas about what
they are reading.
Perspective Narratives
In this unit students will learn how to write narratives
from different perspectives. Students will write a
variety of narratives from different perspectives,
learn how to balance fact and opinion in their writing, and how to add researched information into
their writing. The goal of the unit if for students to
write journal entries from the perspective of explorers.

In our second math unit we will be looking at decimals, ratios and percentages.
Students will learn how read and write decimals as
well as rounding them. Student will also add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals to solve real life
problems.
Students will learn how to read and write ratios,
how to find equivalent ratios, and how to use scale
to enlarge and reduce shapes.
For percentages, students will learn how to convert
between fractions, decimals, and percentages as
well as finding percentages of whole numbers.

Units of Inquiry
Where We Are in Place and Time: Exploration
In our second unit students will inquire into exploration. Students will look at the exploration of places
over time as well as why people explored, what technology or tools they used to explore, and the impact of their discoveries.
