Math

Biographies
In our third unit students will be reading biographies.
Students will learn about the structure of biographies and what makes them a unique genre. Students will also learn to understand biographies by
looking closely at the settings and subjects
(characters) in biographies.
Non-Fiction Writing
In this unit students will learn how to create nonfiction writing. Students will learn how non-fiction
writing is organized in a way to express and support
ideas. Students will also learn how to develop their
non-fiction writing through a variety of techniques.

We will be continuing to look at decimals in math,


and also to focus on ratios and percentages.
Students will learn how to find equivalent ratios
and to then apply that skill to finding distances on
maps.
For percentages, students will understand what
percentages are, how they are related to decimals
and fractions, and how to calculate the percentage
of a number.

Units of Inquiry
Who We Are: Changes in Adolescence
In this unit students will learn about and inquire into systems in our body, how those systems are interconnected, and how they change as we grow. Students will be also be learning about how the human
body changes during puberty, and how these changes affect people socially and emotionally.
