PRE-BUNCH CLOSURE EL 32
Downy Mildew
A Secondary Downy Mildew Event
did not occur this morning. Good
news.
The region only received a very small
amount of rainfall in the 4 hours
before dawn and humidity did not get
to 98%. This means Downy Mildew
will not sporulate and spread.

seen in vineyards that have not been
adequately protected (left). These
vineyards now have a significant level
of Downy Oilspots and in some rare

It is strongly recommended growers
include Downy Mildew protectants
with their remaining fungicide sprays.
The late season options are captan,
copper or mancozeb.

Powdery Mildew
Powdery Mildew has also been spreading again this week. Warm, dewy mornings increase humidity in
your canopy which helps the spread of the disease. Upper leaf infections and bunch infections have
been found this week in CropWatch blocks. Look out for the symptoms of bunch Powdery shown below.

Weed growth
Weeds levels have also increased as recent rainfall and dews keep plants fresh and actively growing.
Wireweed, especially has thrived in the humid, shaded environments.

Withholding Periods
Berry development is progressing steadily. Shiraz at Meadows and Balhannah has berries that are
touching – Pre-Bunch closure (EL 32). Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are also at or past
Bunch closure.
