Reader Response Letter Three
Hans Ostrom presents many great pieces of advice and ways that a writer should
consider to improve on their writing; along with many concepts that a writer should address
before writing. With the ever present advances in technology and accessibility to all expanses
of media from around the world, a certain care is needed when dealing with writing on some
subjects. Much like Ostrom mentioned multiculturalism is a concept that most writers,
especially new writers in the college environment, need to embrace and learn to conform to.
Up until this point many writers had been focused on their own culture and writing according to
its style, rather than respecting the culture of another writer. The fact that new writers are also
exposed to an essential new culture of college, an adaptation in writing styles may need to
occur in order to cover the new, wider range of ideas and beliefs. This new environment will try
our beliefs and compare and contrast them to the beliefs of others, especially in the form of
writing. I agree with Ostroms theory of that an essay is a form of access into the mind of the
writer showing their personal opinions, views, and values on certain subjects. The idea of
holding a self-interview with yourself, concerning your paper being multicultural is a good way
of really discerning the true nature of your paper and how it applies to many cultures across the

education spectrum. Such ideas presented by Ostrom in his article allows us new writers to get
a more in depth insight into how we right our papers, and address the fact of our new,
multicultural environment.
