What is the MCG?

The MCG is a Melbourne icon which
stands in the middle of the city. Its a
football and cricket ground. Its used
to hold many national and
international sports and
entertainment events. MCG is an
acronym for Melbourne Cricket
Ground.
The first games of football and
cricket were played in 1877.

The MCG held some of the Olympic


Games.

What do we know about


the MCG? -Elle
The MCG is 173.6 metres long and
148.3 metres wide from fence to
fence. It is the fourth largest stadium

in the world. There are four seated


areas in the MCG they are: Olympic
Stand, Ponsford Stand, MCG
Members Reserve and the Great
Southern Stand.
The MCG has a seating capacity of
100,000 and is one of the most
famous icons in Melbourne.
There are 114 sprinklers on the
ground.

Why is the MCG


important to Melbourne?

The MCG is a really important part of
Melbourne. It attracts millions of visitors
each year, they spend and help the

Australian economy. It makes people


feel special and part of Melbourne and
Australia. It provided 150 people with
permanent jobs and many more with
part time and volunteer work.
Lots of people think the MCG is about
footy, its not its about being a part of
Melbourne.

How does the AFL work


at the MCG? -Jas
There are 18 teams in footy they are:
Geelong, Collingwood, Blues, Tigers,
Port Adelaide, Essendon, Hawks, Sydney,
Giants, St Kilder, Adelaide Crows, Gold
coast, Western bulldogs, West coast
eagles, Freemantle, Brisbourne lions,
North Melbourne and Melbourne
Demons.
There are 32 players on the field at
once.

In each team there 18 team players


on the field at once.

What are the main parts


of the MCG? - Both
Elle-In the MCG is a National Sports
Museum; it has influenced lots of
children to do sports such as:

archery, basketball, netball and bike


riding.
Jas-Footy and cricket have both been
a big input on the MCG. Its such a
big change on everyone who has
ever been to the MCG to show how
its changed and how that theyre
doing it to help Australians.
