RE Conduct of CEO

Dear Matthew,
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the bizarre behaviour of
our current CEO Michael Keeble.
Whilst visiting friends Mr & Mrs Saint Friday 24th Oct at 12.34pm at their
private residence on the above mentioned date we were visited by CEO
Michael Keeble. Mr Mike Gill was also present.
CEO Michael Keeble entered the premises uninvited and asked Mr Gill
What is your end game. Mr Gill explained what he would like to see in
the Shire such as a higher level of training for staff, who can provide
spreadsheets of lists of works, timelines etc.
Mr Keebles language and mannerisms were very strange indeed and
negative to say the least. Mr Keeble explained he advertises for
competent staff but They do not even reply to the f***ing ads. Mr Gill
asked Mr Keeble Why do you think that is. Mr Keeble replied Because
this town is a shithole. It is noteworthy that Mr Gill was indeed passionate
but not aggressive in any way.
Mr Keeble left shortly afterwards stating on the way out the door that he
was Counting down the days until he leaves.
I was shocked and somewhat intimidated by Mr Keebles behaviour. This
kind of approach to a mediation meeting is completely inappropriate. If
the CEO wanted to meet with Mr Gill to discuss a way forward, an
appointment should be made at the Shire offices. Staffing issues should
not have been discussed outside of the Shire and certainly not with Mr Gill
in front of two other people.
This incident coupled with the comments made by Mr Keeble only last
week at the supposed commencement of my EDO role (attached) suggest
Mr Keeble does not have the best interests of York at heart and is doing
more damage than good.
To read now the minutes of the confidential agenda item (publishing
support for staff and council re bullying) is beyond belief. Mr Keeble
walked into a lions den last Friday with an antagonistic attitude. To then
suggest the community is attacking him is martyrdom.
On another note I noticed the Council resolution last week regarding the
interview process of a new CEO included Consider the involvement of the
present Chief Executive Officer in the recruitment process. Mr Keeble used
such negative language in three of the four meetings I had with him
regarding the EDO position it would be irresponsible of the Council to have
him part of the recruitment process. His attitude and language was
certainly a major contributing factor in my declining the position offered to
me.
I am extremely disappointed in the CEO and in the best interests of York
and its residents I wish to request Council consider the immediate
dismissal of Mr Michael Keeble.
