WHY did the Soviet Union collapse?

In my opinion I do not think the USSR could have survived because the
communists wanted too much power and was running the government into the ground.
The economy was becoming too much to handle for state planning. Free market
policies resulted in failed businesses. Also Gorbachev changed communism by
resulting to glasnost which means openness and government reforms. Also, Russia
was trying to keep pace with military buildup with the U.S which led to neglection of
domestic troubles. I do not believe the USSR could have survived because there were
too many problems within the government.
