Interview: Kayla Berryhill

1. What does daycares do or dont do for children at a daycare that you have
seen?
Daycare at a young age help children get on a schedule by knowing when to eat,
sleep, and play. Its also a time that they learn how to play with talk to other children.
2. Do you see a difference with the children that you work with and children
who dont go to daycare?
Yes! Children that go to daycare do better listen to authority when they have to than
children that stay at home with parents.
3. Why do children need to go to daycare?
Daycare is a place where they start learning manners and playing in a school
setting. Children that grow up in daycare already have the structure of school so
when its time for them to go to school its an easy transition.
4. Is daycare necessary 12 hours a day?
No, some children spend way to long of a day in daycare.
5. Are children supposed to learn at daycare?
Yes, most center teacher them colors, ABC, 123, and work all the way up to starting
to write to get them ready for Kindergarden.
6. How does the type of daycare affect the child, such as 5 stars?
5 stars doesnt always mean the best. Its just a statement that says all the teacher in
that center have college degrees and receive state funding because of it. That is the
only thing difference in no stars and 5 stars. Also some centers choose not to be a
rated center. I work at a Christian private center and we are not able to be rated
because we teach children about God and we pray before we eat, etc
7. How much can workers affect daycare and the children?
Teachers affect the children a lot. Most children are with those teachers more than
they are with the parents so they grow to love them. When children go to daycare
they also learn about responsibility, how to clean up after themselves, and make
friends. Most centers do artwork which helps fine motor skills. My center has what
is called tumblebus once a week and it is a gymnastics on wheels that is a great
activity for children to learn coordination.
