The history of science fiction films

It took several decades until the genre was taken seriously by people around the world. Since the
1960s, major science fiction films have succeeded in pulling in large audience shares like star
trek, star wars and even Sci Fi TV series like doctor who. Films of this genre have become a
regular staple of the film industry. Science fiction films have also played a big part in leading the
way in special effects technology which has also had a big impact on other film genres, and have
also been used as a vehicle forsocial commentary.
The first Sci fi film was by GeorgeMlie, his film was called LeVoyage Dans La Lune. This was
the first experience the audience had on another planet at the pictures.

Characteristics of Sci fi
Aliens- Aliens are a major part of Sci fi films as it allows the audience to see imaginative, creative
different characters.
Time travel- Time travels allows the audience to see many different locations from the past
where the audience will also have the opportunity to see different characters like Victorians or
dinosaurs to futuristic planets.
Space travel- Space travel is key to a Sci fi film as Sci fi films are normally set out in space and
the audience will get to see many new and different planets.
Futuristic settings- This allows the audience to see new places which you wouldnt see in any
other genre. It allows the creators to be creative when designing these sets to make them looks
as interesting and wearied as they want.
Sci fi films in the 1900s to 1920s In the 1020s Science fiction got its first film which was by
GeorgeMlie, his film was called LeVoyage Dans La Lune. This was the first experience the

trick photography.
Sci fi films in the 1930s to 1950s In the 1930s to the 1950s there where a few big budget Sci
fi films like king kong which took the world by storm and has since been remade quite a few
times because of its popularity which started with the first one.
Sci fi in the 1960s- in the 1960s there where not to many Sci fi films however one of the Sci fi
films from 1960 really hit it big which was Stanley Kubricks 2001 : space odyssey. Also TV
series was starting to help the genre out like doctor who which started in the 1960s.
Sci fi in the 1970s to 1980s In the early 70s Sci fi films did not do to amazingly well and then
in the late 1970s Sci fi films finally got the film which would take the genre to new levels George
Lucass star wars which was a major hit and had 2 more films come out in the 1980s.

The most popular Sci Fi films over the last 50 years have been star trek which started in the
1960s and then star wars came along in the 1970s and pulled in millions to movie theatres to
watch one of the best Sci Fi films. Sci Fi has become so popular over the last 30 years that some
of the most popular films today are Sci Fi films such as guardians of the galaxy, Oblivion and
Pacific Rim.
