the way in which your project is innovative in the creation and/or production of the work.
This project is in the form of a 25 minute environment conservation documentary. It is based around
the founder of the Pahutukawa Trust, Raymond Weaver. He is the spokesman for the trust and
representative. He owns 500 acres of untouched land which he intends to preserve as a wildlife
reserve under the conservations act. The Auckland City Council have created a plan to develop his
land and neighboring properties and substantially increase rates in the process. The council claims
there is no significant evidence to supports his application for a protected reserve under the
conservation act, however Mr. Weaver has significant evidence to the contrary. He has catalogued
all flora and fauna life not only on his property but the entire island. He is due to meet with the
council in March of 2015 and present not only his research and catalogue but also to present a
historical document between Maori and the Crown that states that the lands he owns, and others,
do not come under the Auckland Districts jurisdiction. According to Mr. Weaver the Auckland
Council have no rights to make decisions over these lands.
This documentary will follow Mr. Weavers research gathering exploration and readiness for the up
and coming meeting with the Council. It will also document Kawau Islands native beauty of its
plants and animals and the people who live there, presenting it in a light that supports Mr. Weaver
actions to preserve the land as public access for all to enjoy.
The documentary will be in three parts:
1. His collection of evidence to present to the council.
2. The life and scenic beauty the Island has to offer.
3. The buildup and conclusion of the meeting with the council.
This production already has full support from Mr. Weaver to film him and his property. The local
populous of the Island also support Mr. Weavers decision to document this case.
I will be the Producer/Director and Editor for this production. There are three shoot days, as
scheduled in Part II of this document. The planned post production is six weeks.
I am asking for funding in the amount of $6,100. This cost is for equipment hire only.
