Introduction to Mathematical Statistics. Sixth Edition. Prentice Hall. Object: This course will present the mathematical underpinnings of statistical applications and is a continuation of STAT462. We will cover Chapters 5-8 in Hogg, McKean and Craig in great detail. In addition, we will discuss various topics as time permits. In particular, we will cover Chapters 58: Point estimators, confidence intervals, sufficiency, method of moments and maximum likelihood estimation, and hypothesis tests. Chapters 910 and 12: Linear regression, analysis of variance, categorical data and nonparametric statistics. Exam Schedule: We will have two in-class midterm examinations. The first midterm will be on Thursday, February 17. The second misterm will be on Thursday, March 31. A comprehensive final examination will be on the final week (May 2 6). Room and time for the final exam will be also announced during the dead week. Homework: There will be approximately 6 homework during the semester. Grade: Your course grade will be determined by your performance on homework (20%), midterm examinations (25% for each), and the final examination (30%). The rule for the letter grade is as follow: A-level[A+,A,A-]: 81 - 100;
