JOB SUMMARY: Manage the day to day functions of assigned Early
Learning Division site(s).
CHILDREN SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for child
supervision and for keeping children safe.

Standard 10: leadership promoting and implementing healthy, safe


learning environment, polices, and procedures.

Head Teacher
JOB SUMMARY: Assist the Site Manager in the management of
the day to day functions of assigned Early Learning Division site.
CHILDREN SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible
for the oversight of child supervision and for keeping children safe.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the Site Manager in the
following areas: implementing best practices and NAEYC
Standards; supporting teachers to develop curriculums based on
screenings and assessments of children.
Creating and implementing positive climate, and support classroom
management.

Teacher
Teachers are defined as the adult with primary
responsibility for a group of children. (NAEYC)
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for all educational
activities of the classroom, and to aid the Teacher
Assistant/Volunteers in their assigned duties.
CHILDREN SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for child supervision and for keeping
children safe.

Teacher
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for implementing the curriculum of the classroom, and
planning and writing weekly lesson plans.
Responsible for daily and monthly reports for designated classroom
(development and periodic review of individualized educational
plans for each child)
Maintain orderly classroom and keep equipment/supplies in good
condition. Implement individual profile and I.E.P.s as well as
lesson plans.
Responsible for room coverage at all times as well as maintaining a
safe indoor/outdoor environment, classroom management and
housekeeping.
Attend workshops, conferences, and in-service training when so
directed.

Assistant Teacher
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the
educational activities in the classroom, and to aid the
Teacher/Volunteers in their assigned duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist the teacher in the planning, implementing and
evaluating of the operations of the classroom and
educational related activities, developing individualized
educational plans.

Assistant Teacher
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitor classroom attendance and follow-up. Maintain required
records.
Plan and arrange for all necessary teaching materials.
Work cooperatively with all staff in meeting all performance
standards.
Participate in the implementation of parent/staff training programs.
Assist in parent activities.
Attend parent and staff conferences , meetings, seminars,
workshops and training as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Teachers Aide
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the educational activities in
the classroom.
CHILDREN SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for child
supervision and for keeping children safe.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist the teacher in the planning, implementing and evaluating of the
operations of the classroom and educational related activities, monitor
Classroom attendance, assist in the planning, parent activities. And
arranging for all necessary teaching materials.
Work cooperatively with all staff in meeting programs standards.
Assist in parent activities.
Attend parent and staff conferences as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Child Development

Education
Specialist
supports the
classroom staff

The Child Development team ensures that all


children have a school readiness curriculum
and that teachers follow best practices.
Teachers complete two home visits, two
parent/teacher conferences, and two
monthly updates.
Childrens skills are assessed three times a
year for social emotional, cognitive, language
and physical development.
Children learn kindergarten readiness skills
such as following directions, listening, and
age appropriate social skills.

Child Development

Teachers provide a weekly guide letter for the learning experience


plans and home/school activity.

The curriculum is based on the Creative Curriculum with lots of


hands-on-experience learning.

Teachers use an anti-bullying curriculum. Children learn lots of


math and science.

Celebrations take place and are respectful of all cultures, religions,


and beliefs. The goal is to include all children.

Parents are encouraged to participate in Parents as Partners, a six


week literacy course (held in English and Spanish), and our Free
Reading is Fundamental (RIF) book giveaway held three times a year.

Early Head Start


Program
Provides infants and toddlers 6 weeks to 3
years of age with a nurturing environment
through relationship building and routines
around the childs personal rhythm to promote
trust.
Children receive positive learning experiences
that help them move toward the next stage of
development and also prepares them to be
pre-school ready.
Home Based services are available.

Family Services
Head Start Family Services provide the following to all
enrolled families through an assigned Family Worker:

A home visit is completed twice a year or as needed


to build family/staff relationships.

Family Workers assist families in developing Family


Partnership goals. These goals are followed up on a
monthly basis.

Monthly case notes demonstrate two-way


communication with families. This communication
helps build strong relationships.

Monthly communication between the Family Worker


and the family builds strong relationships.

Family Services
Family Service staff support parents and site staff at
monthly parent meetings.
Social Service Advisory Committee meetings are held
twice yearly (usually November & March). Staff and
parents are encouraged to come and meet social service
community agencies in our service areas and build
stronger relationships to assist our families.
Resource Books & Parent Handbooks are distributed and
reviewed with each family for needed resources and
information about the program. The Resource Books
provide current resource information about the services
available in the community. The Parent Handbook informs
families about Early Learning policies, procedures, and
information about services available.

Health Services

The Health component staff assist families in


obtaining and maintaining proper health care for
their children. The staff also assist in finding
services that meet the needs of the families
based on the childs health needs while also
meeting the agencys health requirements.
The assigned Health Specialist/Nurse completes
hearing and vision screenings throughout the
year.
Parents are encouraged to join the Health
Service Advisory Committee which meets twice a
year. These meetings are based on the health
needs of the community. The committee is made
up of parents, staff, and community members.
The Health Component collaborates with many
local agencies to bring services directly to the
children.

Mental Health & Disabilities


This team of trained specialists work with children
and families:
With help from the parent, we try to work on
ways to make the child feel comfortable at
school and transition by bringing in a pillow,
picture, etc.
Assist teachers in setting goals for children by
scoring screening tools.
Assist parents in accessing resources in the
community such as Child FIRST, Child Guidance
or local Boards of Education services.
Offer parent support groups at each site as
needed.
Work with families to help ensure children are
ready for Kindergarten.

Protection of Children

All Early Learning staff are Mandated Reporters. Connecticut


General Statutes (State Law) identifies professionals who
because of their work involves regular contact with children, are
mandated by law to report suspected child abuse and neglect.

Mandated Reporters are required to report or cause a report to


be made when, in the ordinary course of their employment or
profession, they have reasonable cause to suspect or believe
that a child under the age of 18 has been abused, neglected, or
is placed in imminent risk of serious harm (CGS 17a-101a).

A Mandated Reporter must report any suspicion to DCF or law


enforcement regardless of the identity of the alleged
perpetrator.

Protection of Children

Connecticut General Statute 46b-120 defines an abused child as


a child or youth less than 18 years of age who:
Has had physical injuries inflicted upon him or her other than by
accidental means, or

Has injuries which are at variance with the history given of them, or
Is in a condition which is the result of maltreatment such as, but not
limited to, malnutrition, sexual molestation or exploitation,
deprivation of necessities, emotional maltreatment, or cruel
punishment.

A suspicion is enough to file a report based on what is observed or told.


Certainty is not required. To report a suspected case of abuse and/or
neglect, call the DCF Careline: 1-800-842-2288.

Parents are welcomed to attend Mandated Reporter Trainings and increase


their knowledge of child abuse/neglect and ways to keep children safe.

Nutrition

E.L.D. has a Registered Dietitian who develops the menu for


children based on the Federal Government guidelines.
The menu changes quarterly and a local caterer prepares the
meals.
Menu Planning meetings are held quarterly. Parents, staff, the
Nutritionist, and the Caterer share ideas about the menu.
The Nutritionist and her staff also sponsor nutrition workshops
at parent meetings.
Nuts and Pork are not served.
Children with food allergies or food restrictions based on
religious reasons will have a special menu created for them.
All children have an annual nutrition assessment based on their
height, weight, and diet patterns.

Facilities and Licensing


Our goal is to make sure the centers are a healthy and safe
environment for the children.
The Senior Coordinator of Licensing and Special Projects
ensures that all of our Early Learning sites operate at or above
the required standards.
Our sites must comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
All facilities are required to post the most recent department
inspection and have such reports available to parents upon
request.
