Chapter 1

My Evolution and the Birth of

My HairRevolution
I can recall the first time my soul ever woke up. I was four years old, maybe even
just three years oldcertainly long before I went to kindergarten.
On that day, I went down the street and across the roadI dont know how I got
there all by myselfto a field that was very far from my house (at least from my three or
four year old perspective). In the middle of this field was a grassy mound. It wasnt all
that big, but it was covered with grass, violets, and lilies of the valley, grasshoppers and
praying mantis crawling and hopping around. I walked up this mound and sat right in the
middle of it.
And, in that moment, I saw the whole universe.
It would be years before I could find the language to describe what I was
experiencing. But at that very young age, I was discovering that the chI, the vital life
force of the universe according to Chinese tradition, the energy that comes down to us
from the universe, does not touch the body, it touches the hair. I didnt know then that we
have five types of hair on the body. The idea came to me that the grass and bushes were
the hair of nature. I could see their chI and the colored auras of the grass, with shades of
greens that were so vibrant and alive, the bushes, with brilliant greens coming up five and
ten feet beyond their branches, and flowers vibrating with colors I have never seen nor
imagined before. The violets were vibrant with intense shades of pulsing purples and
greens.

I witnessed the life force exuding out of the praying mantis and each grasshopper.
It was like an otherworldly experience. Whatever was happening with all of this energy, I
was beginning to formulate into my earliest understanding that the ChI was first
touching the plants leaves, then transforming itself into radiant colors, entering into the
branches and trunks, flowing down into the roots and the earth, and finally getting
grounded.
I remember feeling very calm, just sitting there for a very long time and feeling
like everything that existed in the universe was on that mound in that moment. This is my
adult explanation of what I was feeling at the time. And even this explanation pales
compared to how much I was feeling in those moments on that grassy mound. For me, it
was like heavenly Nirvanafeeling completely awake in my soul.
When I went home that day and for some time afterwards, when I was with my
parents, I would say things like, Look at the color! Look at the energy coming out of
you. And they would say things to me like Stop that Antonio! Youre just dreaming.
You must stop that. Youre very naughty. You mustnt say those things because people
dont want to hear it. This is not real. This is your dream telling you these things. So, I
shut down and repressed my new desire to tell people about their auras, about the energy
and colors coming out of their heads. Thus, I awoke, but shut all of this out of my
conscious mind soon afterall when I was just four years old.
Although I had this experience of the grass and plants being like hair, this was just
my own ideano one else I knew or could talk to understood, or even wanted to hear
about it. Even though my brother, Raymond, who was eleven years older than me,
became a barber, it wasnt because there was any history of anyone in my family being

interested in hair or barbering. Im not sure what lead Raymond in that direction, but he
went to barbering school, mainlyI thinkbecause he wanted a steady, reliable trade.
When I was about eight years old, I used to go down to his barber shop. I would
sweep the floor, clean the place up, and just listen to the guyshis customerstalking.
And I would tell them things like, You know, I could grow your hair back for you. I
meant it. And these guys, who were cool and would drive up in their 57 Chevys, would
pat me on my head and say, That is okay, little boy, you certainly have some
imagination. My bald head just needs a rug [meaning hairpiece].
My brother told me, You mustnt say that to people. They dont want to hear
that. Its not true and you must stop telling such stories. So, once again, I was stopped
and got even more repressed.
No one in my family really got what I was about or what I was experiencing. My
family was good, old-fashioned Italian farming stock on both sides. My mothers side of
the family came from Venice, and my fathers side was from Naples. My grandparents
immigrated to America during the First World War. Both of my parents were born and
raised in America, and they did everything they could to fit in. In my early years, we all
lived in my paternal grandparents three-story house in Bristol, Connecticut. My greatuncle lived on the first floor, my fathers parents, Virgilio and Angelina, lived on the
second floor, and we lived on the third floor atticjust as we might have done in Italy.
My father became very successful in our little town of Bristol. There and in the
surrounding area, he owned four restaurants, two nightclubs, and a catering business
called Esquire Caterers. I was born and raised in the restaurant business, so naturally,
food, not hair, was our livelihood.

I felt most at homenot like a weird little kidin my maternal grandmothers

home. She was very, very spiritual. She had Buddhas, incense and candles burning all
over her very large home. She kept a monkey and a parrot as pets. My parents were very
strict, church-going Roman Catholics, and for Catholics, especially Roman Catholics,
Buddha statues were never seen in the home. But, for me, it was just pure magic going to
my Grandma Lenas house. She had not one, but two green thumbs. The inside of her
house was like a jungle, with plants growing everywhere. Her outside gardens were
amazing she grew all of her own fruits and vegetables, kept chickens and rabbits in her
back yard, and grew one of the most beautiful rose gardens I have ever seen, with a pond
right in the middle of it all, and frogs and flowering water lilies floating like magical
beings through all those lazy summer days.
People would bring their dying plants to her, and she would bring them back to
life. She was an unbelievable gardener; her gardens were like those in the village of
Findhorn and famous throughout the county. She could take an apple, a pear, and a
peach, put them all on the same tree and make them grow. She was also vegetarian,
something which was unheard of in those days, and my father especially, being in the
restaurant business, couldnt believe that anyone could be that way.
All this said, Grandmother Lena had a very strong influence in my life. She was a
far out lady who touched me at the very depth of my soul throughout my upbringing.
She silently nourished my wonderment and connection to the plant world that I had seen
on my little mound. I also think that it was thanks to her side of my family that I, too,
have two green thumbs.

Hair Coloring to Die For
Since the moment of my awakening at the tender age of three, colors have
fascinated me. When I say on my little mound, feeling like I was in the center of the
universe, I saw the green of green, the red or red. The colors shimmered and shone with
the very life and essence of the blades of grass and flower petals. Life was more than
vibrant and alive. It was colorful and breathtaking!
So when I look back, it makes complete sense that my passion for color would
weave itself into my destiny. Way back when I proclaimed I could re-grow hair in my
brothers barbershop, I already knew, in the back of my mind, that I was born to work
with hair. But, the picture would have been incomplete without color. Thus I believe that
it was Providence that brought me to the side of Rosemary Sorentino. And, by my midtwenties, under Rosemarys tutelage, I was one of the top five hair coloring artists in the
world.
Rosemary was the Michelangelo of the hairdressing world, a true alchemist who
did with color what no one else dreamed nor could even imagine was possible. She would
take hues and shades of several of the most noted hair color companies in the world, like
LOreal, Rue, Clairol, and Revlon, magically blend them and create a work of art on her
clients heads that rivaled the coloring masters of Europe. Using several different bowls,
Rosemary would mix her magic potions and create her masterpieces. Her technique was
to use a darker shade on the nape of the neck, a medium shade throughout the middle of

the head, and a lighter shade on the hairline. This created an incredible, natural effect that
no one would ever suspect was done in a salon. And voila creation that previously
could only be accomplished by Mother Nature herself. When Rosemary worked her
magic, her clients hair became her canvas. And when she finished, a timeless, classic,
breathtaking masterpiece adorned the heads of the rich and famous. Goddesses of beauty
like Faye Dunaway, Nancy Sinatra, Mia Farrow, Jackie Kennedy, and so many more
traveled the world and exhibited Rosemarys masterpieces at the most prized and
exclusive parties and celebrations.
Rosemarys genius was first known to the world back in the 1940s, when she
created the infamous sunstreaking effect. She called this technique tortoise shell
streaks. Rosemary managed to recreate the highlights that come after basking in the sun
of the Mediterranean Rivieras world-famous beachesgiving her clients the natural,
pale golden streaks in their Crowning Glory that looked like they come from the hand of
Sun Goddess herself.
These tortoise shell streaks were copied by famous hair colorists around the
world, but none of them ever came close to the exquisite, regal beauty that Rosemary
attained. Today, the average hairdressers call these sunstreaks, and only achieve an
illusion of Rosemarys mastery.
Rosemary reigned supreme as the number one colorist in the world for decades.
She started her career in Lilly Dachs hat salon in New York. Lilly created hats for the
rich and famous, and to go under her masterpieces she needed hair that was superbly
coiffed. Rosemary and Kenneth, who had yet to make a name for himself, were her
dynamic duo to make magic under her hats. But as Rosemary and Kenneths fame

grew, Lillys acclaim as the go-to person for hats declined. Over time, people started
coming to Lillys salon to see Rosemary and Kenneth, the goddess and god of hair,
instead of Lilly.
Lilly had a horrid reputation as being a tyrant with her staff and employees,
including all of the employees at the salon up to Kenneth himself. With all the bad
treatment, harassment, and tension, working at the hat salon was stressful for Kenneth
and Rosemary. Lilly was always going off the handle at the smallest incident. Having had
enough, Kenneth and Rosemary planned a grand exodus from the salon. They set a
precise day and time for this and informed everyone else who worked at the salon.
This appointed day and time arrived, and it just so happened, as predicted, Lilly
was being her usual difficult self, yelling and making everyone around her miserable. At
the precise planned moment, Kenneth, Rosemary, and the entire staff at the salon took
their scissors, combs, hair brushes, and personal belongings, packed them neatly into
their little cases, and silently walked out. They left without a word, not a farewell, goodbye, or great doing business with you.
And thus, Kenneth, Rosemary, and the entire staff walked into a new salon,
Kenneths Salon on the posh Upper East Side of Manhattan. With them came the elite
clientele who used to go to Lillys salon for haircuts and styling, which made it easy for
Kenneth to establish his hair palace.
Although she was famous in her own right, Rosemary always saw herself as part
of a team, but still gave Kenneth full credit for all of her work and stayed in the shadows
of Kenneths fame. Even when someone asked who did this or that beautiful creation on
some famous persons crowning glory, she humbly said, Kenneth.

The fame of Kenneth and his salon was meteoric. Because he had an elite
following to start with, the number of rich and famous flocking to Kenneths and
Rosemarys genius grew by leaps and bounds. The stories I could tell of my time with
Kenneth and Rosemary are too many to count, but two vignettes especially stand out.
In the sixties, Lucille Ball was the queen of television and the most famous
female American comedian. Few remember now that she began her career in burlesque.
She was a stunning woman whose crowning glory was a gorgeous, flaming red. Lucilles
red locks were definitely part of her brand and image, and many tried to imitate it.
Knowing this, Lucille wanted to keep her shade unique and exclusive, and remain the
undisputed Queen of Red.
I Love Lucy was at the height of its popularity and Lucille needed a touch-up as
her red hair and shaping was getting dated. In the L.A. circles, all she heard was that
Kenneth was the only person to do this for her. After hearing nothing but Lucy, you
must see Kenneth, he is the supreme master of hair, no one else even comes close, she
made an appointment with the one and only Kenneth. But Kenneth did not make
appearances in L.A., nor anywhere else in those days. So like all the other starlets, Lucille
had to get revved up and fly cross-country to see him. She made the journey to New York
and was driven to Kenneths.
As she entered the salon, she stormed into the main entrance with her eyes
flashing and spinning around comically as only I Love Lucy could do, and she
bellowed out in a pleading voice, WHERE IS GOD? Of course, the entire salon fell
into fits of laughter at the sight.

Another mythic story I remember because it started a major trend in womens

hairstyling for decades.
Rosemary was called to Marthas Vineyard in Hyannis Port to do Jackie
Kennedys hair. John F. Kennedy didnt approve of this; because the press was always
lurking around, he didnt want hairdressers, make-up artists, or clothing designers coming
to their home and bringing reporters or photographers to get publicity for their work with
the Kennedys. He didnt want people thinking they were extravagant or ostentatious, and
so he scolded her when she had people come to do special work. But Jackie, a lady of
fine taste who wished to look her best, had Rosemary come to the White House and to
their home in Hyannis Port for special coloring and hairdos.
On this particular occasion, Rosemary finished her coloring magic on Jackie and
did a quick set and comb out before Jackie had to jump on a private plane. As she
climbed the steps up to the planes doorway, the wind picked up her hair, lifted it and
filled it with air, creating a full-blown bouffant style. At that precise moment, her hair full
and truly crowning her head, eager photographers snapped pictures that soon graced
every front page of all the U.S. newspapers. Rosemary was standing nearby, and a
photographer saw her and asked, Who did her hair? In her modesty and loyalty to her
Prince of Hair, Rosemary said, Mr. Kenneth of Kenneths Salon.
The pictures that were in every newspaper in the world created a bouffant rage,
and soon every housewife in the country asked their hairdressers to copy the look, and
thus, the famous hairdo that launched hair styles for years to come was born.
My time with Rosemary was transformational. Her intensity and artistry
mesmerized me and I just tried to soak up all the knowledge she offered. I watched as she

again and again turned ugly ducklings into swans, always awed by her skill. She was the
grand mistress of color, and I shall remember and honor her genius, devotion, and
humility forever.
Despite Rosemarys loyalty and devotion to Kenneth, the two geniuses sometimes
clashed, and their relationship was not without drama. I am not sure what finally led to
that fateful, emotional day when Rosemary and Kenneth had their final falling out, and
she walked out of the salon, never to return. But, it was a turning point for me and
another life-altering decision to make. When Rosemary had departed, Kenneth turned to
me and offered me the chance to run Kenneths coloring departmentthe number one
coloring job in the world. And he was offering it to me on a velvet pillow.
But, as you know from my story, I said, No thanks.
A mistake? Not at all. Regrets? None.
Working at Kenneths had put me in touch with a number of remarkable people
who beckoned me back to my visions and experiences of the natural world of my youth. I
am honored to call Dr. Cecilia Lu, Dr. Fung, and of course, my Brazilian lady friend my
teachers. They provided me with the first detailed information that made my visions and
experiences come to life. They expanded my horizons by revealing the methods and logic
of healers and shamans over the centuries. It was for me to take their knowledge and put
it to use in my chosen profession. The seeds of my HairRevolution and the Morrocco
Method were being planted.
Although Kenneths was the pinnacle of the hair world, it was a time when
technology, science, and going modern were fashionable. Going natural and organic
werent even serious considerations. Botanicals were to be synthesized and perfected in

labs. That was the way of the future. Unfortunately, unlike food, cosmetics are very
poorly regulated for their chemicals and possible toxic ingredients and effects. I dont
think that there was any intention to harm anyone then, as the chemicals that cosmetic
companies were using were not studied or researched. No one took cosmetics all that
seriously or possibly even thought to consider that they may have harmful effects.
Today, the toxic effects of cosmetics, colors, and dyes are more widely known.
Years ago, I became very conscious of this in a dramatic and personal way. After leaving
Kenneths, I stayed in touch with Jackie Kennedy (later Jackie Onassis). When she died,
her son, John Jr., told me that the doctors said her brain tumor had been caused by the
coal tar in her hair dyes. At that time, this knowledge was shocking to me and the few
privileged enough to hear it. Now, the knowledge of the poisonous effects of such dyes is
commonplace in the hair industry. Yet even still, this industry, fueled by vanity and
greed, continues to make products with lethal chemicals and poisons that are toxic to both
in the short and long term. In my HairRevolution School, I provide budding stylists and
colorists a list of some of the toxic chemicals that are found in hair care products. Some
of the worst are found in hair dyes. Because none of Morrocco Method International
products contain any of these poisons, I will not bore you with this lengthy list of names,
but you can look them up yourself if you just look at the ingredients of virtually any

In the strange and magical twists and turns of my life, my experiences at
Kenneths showed me two possible futures. One future was the modern way, the

colorist of that world. The other was the world I was beckoned back to be remarkable

people in and around the mandala of Kenneths. It was a world of shamanic wisdom and
magic that whispered to me of the power and potential of our Crowning Glory: a natural,

All it took was for Kenneth to ask the question: Will you take over my hair
coloring department? That one questions sent me into the most powerful out-of-body
experience I have ever had. And in that radiant state, I had the epiphany that I would

As a hair shaman, I think that one of the greatest stories ever told about our
Crowning Glory and its magic, mystery, and power is the Biblical story of Samson.
Most theologians and philosophers would never realize this. They dont see the
deeper meaning when the Bible says Samsons hair was his link to the Divine and his
source of strength. But it is so obvious, shouting to us loud and clear! Of course, like all
such stories, there are layers upon layers of meaning and information. But the story of
Samsons Crowning Glory is too important to be just brushed aside. If we keep it simple,
not only does the story of Samson tell us about our Crowning Glory, it also reveals one of
the most important features of what it takes to have perfect health and great looking hair:
detoxification.
According to the Bible, Samsons Crowning Glory was gorgeous and very
masculine and powerful. And just like my vision of the grass on the mound of my youth,
not only was his Crowning Glory amazing to look at, it was also his source of universal
power, connecting him to the Divine. The Bible even says that because Samson was
special to God, no hair on his head had ever seen a razor. And through his hair, Samson
received the chI, the powerful energies of the universe though his crown chakra. These
energies transformed into his physical energy and great strength.

But sometimes we are just too good looking for our own good. We can get
careless and forget how the Five Elements in nature support our strength and connection
to the sublime and divine, and that we need to take special care for our gifts. And that is
what happened to Samson. In his vanity and pride, he didnt fully appreciate what God
had given him. He became careless with his secret, the secret of his powerhis

The Bible gives Delilah a bad reputation. She was a temptress, a daughter of the
evil Philistines, the sworn enemy of the Israelites. Even her name means weak. She
was sent to tempt Samson, to render him powerless. And that is what she did. Even
though he mocked her and played hard to get, Delilah persisted. She spent time with
Samson and wooed him night after night. We can see a great interplay and flow between
the masculine and feminine powers as our hero and heroine become closer. Then, through
Samsons hair, his crown chakra, Delilah is able to take control of her lover. Ultimately,
though, she only accomplished a betrayal of Samson and her inner self.
All shamans know that there are some secrets that should not be told. Its not
because they want to be stingy or hold special power over others, but because some
secrets need to be passed on properly, to people who understand how to use them way
they were intended. In the wrong hands, such secrets can go off like nuclear bombs.
When I received my first shamanic teaching from my Brazilian friend at Kenneths, I was
sworn to secrecy. I have honored that promise to her to this very day.
Samson knew one of those secrets. Through his Crowning Glory, he had a special
connection to God and the Divine. But one night, to prove his love and loyalty to Delilah,
he gave away this precious secret.

The Bible says that Delilah was the cause of Samsons downfall. But what made
Samson vulnerable to her charms and guile was his own pride, toxic emotions, and a
disregard for the magic and mystery of his Crowning Glory and the connection it forged
between him and God. During those nights with Delilah, he ate and drank until he was
delirious and out of control. He lost the magic, mystery, and power of what should have
been cherished and kept secret. Through his habits and attitudes, Samson became
disconnected and Delilah had no problem cutting off his Crowning Glory. Without it, he
lost his strength and became powerless.
But consider this: what if Delilah did Samson a favor? With his pride and toxic
emotions, he had become full of himself. If he was going to get back to his connection to
the divine, something had to give. Delilah actually did him the most amazing favor. By
shaving his head, she got rid of the history his hair had stored. She detoxified himand
made him open and available for new divine energy to come in.
The Philistines made Samson a slave. He ate very little (like a fast) and did hard,
physical labor, so he sweated a lot. During this detox process, the Bible says that the
Philistines did not pay attention to one little detail of their captive. His Crowning Glory
started to grow back! With that new head of hair, and a mind and body freed of toxins,
Samson reconnected with the Divine. Slowly but surely, the new, non-toxic Samson, with
a new and cleansed Crowning Glory emergedeven more powerful than before.
Not only does the Bible give us the first great story of detoxification, it is also an
example of the first great revelation in Western stories of the importance of our Crowning
Glory. This appreciation remains alive in the hands of the masterful barbers I visited in
all of the small villages throughout Europe.

The Importance of Detoxification

In all holistic healing sciences on the planet, the NUMBER ONE key to good
health is DIET. Combined with exercise and proper full breathing, a healthy, vital diet
will keep us strong within our bodies and radiant without. These practices are also
natural, everyday ways to detoxify.
Additionally, we must consider our hygiene practices and the products we use on
our body, skin, and hair. Most of us may think that the skin and hair care products we use
are primarily for cleansing and moisturizing. However, we have to remember that our
hair and skin ingest nutrientsthey eat also! Thus, if it is best for us to put high quality,
natural, organic foods inside our body, we should apply the same logic to the outside of
our body by using natural, wild-crafted, organic hair and skin care products.
Although we specialize in natural, wild crafted, organic, vegan hair and skin care
products are essential, remember one of the Spokes in the Wheel of the Morrocco
Method is a healthy, vibrant lifestyle fueled by the foods we ingest in our daily diet.
These foods are of the utmost importance. In fact, what we eat is primarily responsible
for the beauty of our Crowning Glory.

Eating More Water Foods

There are water foods and there are denser foods that contain little or no water at
all. Our body is 70% waterlike our Planet Earthand our lymph system actually has a
higher percentage of water than our blood: 80%. The food we eat should reflect similar
percentages. That is, a healthy diet is one that is 70 to 80 percent water in its solid to
liquid proportions. If we eat like this we will naturally detoxify. So, look at the proportion

between water versus solid content to get a good barometer of how you are detoxing in
your daily eating habits. If the percentages of water and water foods drop, and you eat
more foods that are solid and dense with lower water content, the less detoxing action
shall occur.
As our lymph system works to clean and detox our body of chemicals and toxins,
it only makes sense that foods with higher water content are necessary to aid in detoxing
wastes from ones body. The key points to keep in mind are:
1. Eat a diet high in green vegetables and fruits. These have the most water and are
definitely the healthiest choice to detox and live a healthy lifestyle.
2. Drink plenty of liquids, including quality spring or purified (rather than tap)
water, natural fruit and vegetable juices, and herbal teas rich in antioxidants.
3. Never drink sodas or chemical-based drinks of any kind. They poison the system,
making your body sluggish and more toxic. Even worse than sugar-based drinks,
or the ones filled with artificial saccharin- or nutria-sweeteners and the natural
ones that are sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. They wont quench your
thirst and will instead make you gain weight.
4. Fish and poultry are OK in moderation.
5. Red meats are meant to be eaten in very moderate amounts. If you look around
the planet, you will notice that in areas where red meat is the dominant food, life
expectancy is shorter.

Exercise!

For our lymph system to do its job of detoxing most effectively, we need to
activate and cleanse it with exercise and movement. Unlike blood, which has our heart to
pump blood throughout our system, our lymph system has no such device. Hence, it is
through movement and exercise that we detox and eliminate toxins from the lymph
system. Generally, just a half hour of leisurely walking in the morning, after lunch, and in
the evening will do the job. If this is too much to start with, try once each day and
gradually build up to twice and hopefully three times each day to see maximum benefits.
Running and jogging are not recommended here and are not necessary for a good
detoxing program. Proper breath is our greatest source of strength and best ally for
detoxing our system. Keeping the breath nice and even during your walks will do the
trick. If you want to be more adventurous, try yoga, chi quong, martial arts, or any lowimpact aerobics exercise that does not leave you winded are all excellent for health on a
daily basis.
Throughout this book, I have shared with you some of the breathing exercises that
we at Morrocco Method International practice and recommend to our clients. Here, we
want to share with you the greatest breathing exercise you can do. It is quite basic and
simple.

The Breathing Exercise:

The formula is a ratio of 1 count breathing in, 4 counts for holding, and 2 counts
for breathing out. For example, you can breathe in for a count of 5, hold the breath for a
count of 20, and then breathe out for a count of 10. If this is done three times per day, this

exercise alone is scientifically proven to be the most beneficial and healthy detoxing
method known to man. So, when you wake up in the morning, sit up straight and breathe
in for a count that is comfortable for you to startsay 4 seconds. Then hold for 16
seconds, and breathe out for a count of 8 seconds. Mid-day or after work, repeat this
process. Finally, just before going to bed, repeat this simple breathing technique. Do this
exercise three times a day, and youll see the maximum detoxing results.

ingested through our pores, enter our blood stream, and travel throughout the entire body.

When these conditions occur, returning to proper diet and using all-natural,

Total Vitality and Great Hair
Our entire universe is pulsing with vital energywith chI. when our whole body
and mind are tuned and opened to this chI, we can feel a tingling from the tips of our
toes to the top of our head. In those moments, we can feel our hair standing on end. In
fact, some traditions use the metaphor of people being so alive and inspired that their hair
is on fire!
Just as this chI comes into the leaves of a plant and then courses through into the
branches, down the trunk, and into the roots, this vital energy comes down from the
ethers and enters our body through the five different types of hair on our body. First and
foremost, it enters through our crown chakra, stimulating our brain and highest
sensitivities, and then makes its way through to the coarser levels of our body and mind.
To understand how the chI gives us energy, its important to understand the five
different types of hair we have and what they do:

Hair on our Heads

This is our crown chakra. The hair here is the most sensitive, the most receptive to chI,
and it produces the most energy and heat.

Eyelashes and Eyebrows

The energies in this hair are very subtle and linked to intuitions, feelings, and emotions.

Facial Hair and Beards

Just like men dont start growing facial hair until they mature, the energies here are
associated with maturity. They are fine and subtle, and we learn to truly understand them
with growth and experience. Women grow facial hair when they achieve Elderhood.

Body Hair
Like the grass and coverings of the Earth, the energies in our body hair are massive. They
cover large, broad areas of our understanding of the world. Think about when your hair
stands on endthis is a phenomenon that raises your energy and heightens your senses in
a fight or flight response.

Pubic Hair
This is where youll find youre most magical and in-tune energies. They translate coarse
energy into those rare, spiritual feelings and experiences and make us feel connected to
the Universe!

Thus, I as I have said earlier, the hair on your head, Your Crowning Glory, is
more than just a covering for your head and brain. I cant stress enough how important it
is to fully appreciate this. Like millions of antennae, your hair picks up the subtle life
force energy, the chI, from the universe. It is the first place where the chI touches our
physical body.

If our hair is kept clean and in good condition, the better the signal and quality of
vibration our hair can pick up. This means we feel better overall, with energy stimulating
our minds and bodies. Think of animals in nature, after they have bathed or cleaned the
hair or fur. They shake themselves off. Sometimes they even dance. They feel and act
more alive. Think of how invigorating it can feel when the wind whistles through your
clean hair. Conversely, think of a bad hair daybeyond not looking the way you want.
Havent you noticed that you feel out of sortsmaybe even disconnected or
distracted from the world around you?
So, what can we do on a day-to-day basis to give our hair the look, feel, and
capacity to do its part in supporting our connection to the universe, our joys, our passions,
even our purpose?
In this chapter, I want to give you an outline of all the points of great hair care
that I shall elaborate on in the following chapters. I call these the Spokes in The Wheel.
Listing them in the order we may normally think about our hair, these spokes are:

1. Haircutting, Shaping, and Natural Styling Techniques

It is important to follow our unique Lunar Cycle haircutting chart, which tells you the
best days each month to cut your hair to see your desired results, as there are five
techniques that can be applied when cutting hair. There are optimal days each month for
each technique. (You can find the chart, along with many great resources, on our website
at www.5elementshaircare.com.)

2. Products

Choose 100% natural, organic and wild-crafted shampoos, conditioners, plant-based MM

I wont discuss exercise too much in this book, as you probably already know how

going for a 30 minute walk daily or joining an exercise class is also good. Find an activity

youll enjoy doing each day for a minimum of thirty minutes. If done with a positive
attitude, just this amount can be quite beneficial. If you want and are able to do more, go
ahead, but if you start stressing about time or push yourself into too much discomfort,
then its more likely youll exercise only occasionally.
When you follow the Morrocco Method, youll cut your hair according to the
lunar cycle every few months, but youll use our products, brush your hair, eat, and
(hopefully) exercise every day. Healthy, vital hair depends on a healthy, vital lifestyle.
The Morrocco Method absolutely relies on you paying attention on a day-to-day basis of
what you eat, your activity level, and what you choose to put on your body and hair. As
we are all creatures of habit, it's best to set good daily habits and make them automatic.
Some of the suggestions in this book may seem difficult at first, but thats likely because
youre trying to replace your old routine and habits. Be diligent and they will get easier
and your hair will respond. And, I can assure you, anyone who cuts, styles, and colors
hair for a profession appreciates clients who take care of themselves. Clients with a
healthy lifestyle have healthy vital hair that responds beautifully. Clients that eat a dead
diet, dont exercise, and use commercial, toxic, chemical gunk on their hair are harder to
create good results for
and they tend to have all sorts of issues that we stylists and colorists then have to listen
to.
Which brings us to the final spoke in the wheel
6. A positive attitude
This is the last, but probably most important spoke. I will mention this more later
and throughout the book. But in a nutshell, stop wasting energy on past history, including

any past hair problems. Youll find that having a positive attitude makes it easier to adopt
the habit of a healthy lifestyleand then, your health and vitality makes it easier to have
a positive attitude! Be very positive and direct in the here and now. Life is possibility.
If you want to see change in your life and change in your hair, start with a positive
attitude, one that looks to possibility. Visualize the end result, that what you want has
already taken place. Its happening here and now and you are living a life that is radiant
and happy. You are living your passion, your bliss, and you are excited to wake up and
get out of bed every morning. And, your luxurious hair is thicker, more beautiful, and
more radiant than you can even imagine. It truly is Your Crowning Glory, Naturally!

Chapter Eight

Customizing your Hair Cuts

Using Morrocco Method Lunar Chart
People from Old World countries whose cultures are rooted in the natural cycles
of the moon and the seasons are astonished at our habit of having our hair cut without
aligning the appointment to the natural cycles of the moon.
To them, having our hair cut when the moon is not in favor for lunar haircutting
is like planting a seed in the winter and expecting it to grow. Winter is a time of
dormancy; it is not a season that is supportive of growth. The ideal season for planting is
spring, and as our ancestors learned over the centuries; planting on the moon cycles
optimizes the growth of plants dramatically.
These principles not only apply to planting on the earth; they apply to the human
body as well. Our body is a microcosm of the earth. Like the various vegetation of earth
-- algae, seaweed, plants, flowers and trees our body has a similar vegetation of hair:
there is our pubic hair, our facial hair, our eye brow and eyelash hair, our torso and
appendage hair, and, of course, the hair on our "Crowning Glory." And like the earth,
our body is composed of more than eighty percent water as well, and is influenced by the
moon as powerfully as the seas.
Just as there is an ideal time to plant, pull weeds, reap, and put energy back into
the soil through compost, there is an ideal time to cut or harvest our hair. Aligning our
hair cuts to the ebbs and flows of Lunar Cycle astrology has a very powerful effect on the
growth and maintenance of our hair.

According to the ancient wisdom of Shamans who consider hair a sacred part of
our body, there are 5 elements each month that are ideal for cutting hair. Within those 5
elements there are times that will enhance different aspects of hair growth, such as its
strength, its thickness, its length, the strengthening of its roots and its general
beautification -- provided that it is cut on the appropriate days. To have our hair cut on
the remaining, inauspicious days of that month would actually retard the growth of our
hair.
Knowing when the retardation period of hair growth is occurring can be a useful
tool for our hair care as well. Harvesting unwanted hair at this time is ideal. It would
