In the beginning of the title sequence, it establishes the narrative in a quite unique way, by showing them undressing
from their supposed disguises gives the hint of their intention and overall what the film is based about, when we
think of disguises, we think about hiding identity and therefore lead to some thoughts of criminal activity. The mid
neutral shot tells us that theyre all in the same position same job role and by enclosing it into a van, it emphasises
the closeness and reliability they may have with one another.
The title is edited on to the diamond, this again hints the narrative and what these characters are involved in. By fitting
the title Snatch, which means seizing something quickly onto the diamond, it gives a relation of taking something that
doesnt belong. Graphic match editing is used to switch shots to present the characters, by doing this it gives links to
each character and how maybe they all want the same thing money. The title is plain white but bold and straight to
the point which signifies how the film may be, the simple and short title may portray the quickness of the film. The use
of the magnifying glass emphasises the characters interest in diamonds and money as he is shown admiring the
diamond.
This shot shows who is in power and each characters personality. As you can see, the person on the right
punching the bag is deemed as aggressive due to his strict face and stance, showing him to be quite violent.
Whereas we see the opposite on the left as he grasps the bag, the bag signifies the man; vulnerable and weak.
His facial expression also tells the audience that he is looked down upon as he is not shown as brave as the
individuals around him. The mid shot provides utmost detail on the characters, however they are not all deemed
as equal in power, the two individuals on the right are at the same height, showing equal power, whereas the
character on the left is seen as shorter, depicting as weaker character.
This shot shows a close up of a character, the close up emphasises his personality as he smiles cheekily. The grasping
of gold jewellery, shows his interest clearly and signifies ownership and his unwillingness to let go, even if what he is
holding will cause trouble. The title and editing are set accordingly to highlight the title with use of complementary
colours edited the background to be darker to highlight the name.
This shot refers back to the first shot shown, at the end of the sequence it jumps back to the original scene this again
shows a link that they all want the same thing and maybe all part of the same job. The framing and close up of this
shot shows no outer area, suggesting that it may be a case of everyones in it for themselves, as the shot shows
singularity. This shot also shows him mid-way from grabbing the diamond, this again relates to the title of Snatch,
expressing the ownership of the diamond. Main focus is to the diamond as the individual is blurred out, portraying
that the diamond in relation to money is all that matters; its the main subject in the film and expresses how easily
an object can be manipulating as he looks towards the diamond in a sort of trance look.
