Midterm- Interpretations

This observation took place at The Baby Academy Daycare Center during the
morning playtime in the toddlers classroom. In this observation I had the pleasure to observe
a twenty month old girl who played in solitary play as well as associative play. I will be
interpreting where this child is developmentally in the main six developmental areas which
are Social, Emotional, Language, Cognitive, Fine and Gross Motor Development. The child I
interviewed appeared to be developing at a right level in the Fine and Gross motor
developmental area, as she was able to hold objects with two hands, used whole arm
movement, pushed and pull objects, squat for long periods, and had an awkward coordination
For cognitive development the child had a short attention span, gave up easily but was easily
engaged, matched similar objects, and follows one direction.(81). For language (166) I also
believe she is developmentally at level. As for language and the age she is in she is suppose
to be makes two word phrases, babbles, repeats adult words, shakes head to respond no
as well as she pointed to communicate. For emotional development she was usually friendly,
curious, relates to adults better then children, mimics adult behavior, talks mostly to self as
well as likes doing things on her own (81). It is written that In the first two years
infants/toddlers progress from reactive pain and pleasure to complex patterns of social
awareness. Toddler expressed emotions such as crying, laughing, and liking to be noticed.
These were some of the things I observed that lead me to think where the child was
developmentally.
