Readin g: We will be reading Dear Mr. Winston while
learning strategies of how to locate information in
the text that support our opinions and predictions.
Students will be able to select questions that help
focus and clarify their thinking before, during, and
after reading a text.
Lan guage Art s: This week we will learn the
appropriate use of pronouns in text. Students will
know and use subject and object pronouns correctly,
and be able to identify the forms and functions of
all subject and object pronouns.
Social St ud ies: Students are now masters of the
events that led to the American Revolution; now we
will focus on the key leaders and battles within the
Revolution. Students will be able to identify the
Battle of Bunker Hill, Princeton and Trenton, &
Saratoga. We will learn about the significance of the
Second Continental Congress and the influence of
Thomas Paine & Benedict Arnold during the American
Revolution.

Mat h: During our Math block, we will begin our


study of algebra. Your child will learn to use letters
and symbols to represent an unknown quantity.
He/she will also learn how to write simple
mathematical expressions using a variable.
Scien ce: You scientist will begin the Light Energy
unit this week. We will determine which surfaces
reflect, refract, or absorb light through lab
investigations and close reads. Next week, we will
discuss transparent, translucent, and opaque
materials.
Sp ell ing: This week in Spelling, your student will be
learning about /u/ vowel sounds. Your childs
spelling activity will be due on Thursday!
