Liberties and Civil Rights. Introduction: This is the final project of this unit. As students you will become the primary sources and authors of your own history. You must work together in groups and as a class to recall all the experiences and the information learned in this unit to write a chapter of this textbook. Directions: 1) Students will be split into five groups and be assigned a lesson learned in the unit. a. Equal Protection b. Rights of the accused c. Interpreting Privacy in the U.S d. Mock Supreme Court ruling e. Affirmative Action 2) Each group will then work collaboratively to investigate the information learned in each groups assigned lesson. a. Groups will develop a general questionnaire to ask all the students about what they learned as well as gather the student notes written about the lesson. b. Groups will then conduct a series of at least five interviews with individual students about their experiences during the unit. i. The interviews should focus on how the information has affected their thinking about the world around them. ii. The interviews should have students recall any particular memories associated with the assigned lesson. iii. Make sure the interviews are thorough. 3) Each group will be responsible for writing a 8-10 page paper, each paper must have the following elements: a. Information learned in the lesson which include: i. Terms of the lesson ii. Concepts discussed iii. Examples which were analyzed (E.G Court Cases, Historical events, specific people and etc.) b. Emphasize on Information about how students felt about what they learned, the reactions of the lesson, make clear and note of particular people who stood out in the lesson. c. Finally each group must analyze what they have learned and the experiences in the lesson and write about the significance of the information in the context of U.S society. d. Each paper should have at least 4-5 images relevant to the lesson. 4) Each group will then provide a five minute class presentation of their assigned lesson. a. The presentation must contain a summary of the content covered in the lesson.
